HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-06-21 HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMt~SSION A meeting of the Historic Districts.Commission was held on Wednesday, June 21, 1972, in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, Town Office Building, Lex- ington. Present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman; Philip B. Parsons, Secretary; George E. Graves; Donald J. Shaw; Georgia H. Williams; and Associate Commissioners Albert T. Pitt and S. Lawrence Whipple. William Somers of 7 Hunt Road which is within the Munroe Tavern Dis- trict was present and wondered what properties were in Historic Districts and what the Act contained. He was given a copy of the Act. A hearing was held at 7155 P.M. on the application of The Old Lexing- ton Restaurant, Inc. (Marco's) with respect to the erection and display of a sign for the rear of the store at 1733 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District. No one was present to represent the ap- plicant but, .since three scale drawings and a color chip had been previously submitted, Mr. Jaquith proceeded with the hearing. Mr. Jaquith read the legal notice and the application and submitted the drawings and color chip. He stated that they want to use the existing signboard on the rear of the building. Following discussion, the hearing was closed at 8x20 P.M. It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness to The Old Lexington Restaurant, Inc. with respect to the erection and display of a sign on the rear of the store at 1733 Massa- chusetts Avenue. Participating in this decision were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Philip B. Parsons, George E. Graves, Donald J. Shaw, and Georgia H. Williams. An adjourned hearing was held at 8x40 P.M. on the application of Keith W. and Marilyn M. Harrison for a Permit for Demolition or Removal of the garage and for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the erection of fencing and the installation of a parking area on the premises at 72 Waltham Street, which is within the Battle Green District. Following discussion, it was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to issue a Permit for Demolition or Removal of the garage and to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness for the erection of fencing along the rear boundary line and installation of a park- ing area at 72 Waltham Street. Participating in this decision were Commis- sioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Philip B. Parsons, George E. Graves, Donald J. Shaw, and. Georgia H. Williams. Keith W. Harrison arrived during the draft- ing of the Certificate. Drawings submitted by Peking Gardens for signs for the restaurant at 27 Waltham Street, hearing for which has been scheduled for July 12, 1972, were shown and discussed. During this discussion it was unanimously VOTED that those present were against baked enamel signs. The meeting was adjourned at 10E20 P M. Philip B. Parsons Secretary
