A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held on Wednesday,
May 24, 1972, in Room Gis, Town Office Building, Lexington at 8100 P.M.
Fresent were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman; Philip B. Parsons,
Secretary; George E. Graves; Donald J. Shaw; and Georgia H. Williams.
Mr. Jaquith stated that he had received a letter of resignation as an
Associate Commissioner from Duncan Macdonald and that he would turn this
letter over to the Board of Selectmen so that they ,could take action on it.
An adjourned hearing was held at 8s05 P.M. with Keith W. and Marilyn
M. Harrison with respect to the .erection and display of a hanging sign for
the store at 72 Waltham Street, which is within the Battle Green District,
as submitted to the Commission at the hearing on April 6, 1972. Mr. Harrison
stated that they had met with the Board of Appeals who approved the hanging
sign but required that the sign be reduced by 6" in height and 5" in width.
Three scale drawings without lettering were submitted and it was stated that
the letters would be a Country Store Red with a white plywood backboard with
molding around the edges. Mr. Harrison also said that the Planning Board
had suggested .green letters but that the Board of Appeals had referred the
color of the sign to the Historic Districts Commission. The hearing was ad-
journed at 8127 P.M.
It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate of
Appropriateness to Keith W. and Marilyn M. Harrison with respect to the erec-
tion and display of a hanging sign for the store at 72 Waltham Street, which
is within the Battle Green District. Participating in this decision were
Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Philip B. Parsons, George E. Graves, Donald
J. Shaw, and Georgia H. Williams.
Following discussion, it was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to
issue a Certificate of Appropriateness amending Certificate No. 72 C-3 issued
to Amelia G. Samolyenko et als, Trustees of The Lexington Mews. Trust on March
il, 1972 for the erection of a building complex with basement at SO-12 Muzzey
Street, which is within the Battle Green District. Participating in this
decision were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Philip B. Parsons, George E.
Graves, Donald J. Shaw, and Georgia H. Williams..
