HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-03-15 E' HISTORIC DISTRICTS C0I~ff3SION A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held on Wednes- day, March 15, 1972, in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, Town Office Build- ing, Lexington. Present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman; Philip B. Parsons, Secretary; George E. Graves; Georgia H. Williams; and Associate Commissioner Albert T. Pitt. Mr. Pitt was appointed to serve for Commissioner Donald J. Shaw who was. unable to be present. Mr. Jaquith stated that he had received a letter of withdrawal of the application of Paul C. Signorelli for a Certificate of Appropriate- ness for the erection of fencing on the premises at 3 Tower Road, which is within the East Village District. An informal meeting was held at 8110 P.M. with Marilyn M. Harrison regarding the two-faced sign for Golden Hand Designers' Fabrics which she proposes to erect on the premises at 72 Waltham Street, which is within the Battle Green District. Mrs. Harrison submitted one rendering of the proposed sign and, following discussion, the meeting was ad3ourned at 8t33 P.M. A hearing on this application was scheduled for Thursday, April 6, 1972. A hearing was held at 8t35 P.M. on the application of Wilson Farms, Inc. for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the erection of a two family dwelling at 632 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the East Village District. Present for the applicant was Donald Wilson, Treasurer of Wilson Farms, Inc. Also present were Roland Gubisch of 627 Massachusetts Avenue; Mrs. A. Murray McAdam of 620 Massachusetts Avenue; Mrs. Sidney Lancaster of 626 Massachusetts Avenue; and Mrs. Lincoln P. Cole, Jr., Secretary of the Board of Appeals. Mr. Jaquith read the legal notice and the application for a Certificate of Appropriateness. Mr. Wilson submitted three sets of scale drawings and plot plans and stated that this is the same plan as used for the house erected at 5,56 Massachu~ setts Avenue in 1967 except that this house would face the Avenue rather than having the front face the side of the property. Mr. Wilson said that the house would not be sold and that they will put up a good build ing as they will have to live with it also. He stated that it would have a finished poured concrete foundation, would be painted white with a white door and green blinds, and would have a macadam driveway at the right side of the house with a parking area in the rear.The abuttors asked several questions and raised several points. In answer to one statement Mr. Jaquith said that the Commission has no control over zoning and has con- trol only over exterior architectural features.. Mr. Graves asked if the rear of the property could be seen from Massachusetts Avenue and Mr. Wilson said that it could be seen only from the farm. Mr. Gubisch asked about fill and Mr. Wilson said that they would add 18" of fill where necessary. In answer to a question about trees Mr. Wilson said that they will retain as many trees on the property as possible and that the trees along the sidewalk would remain. The hearing was closed at 1Ot17 P.M. HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION -Page 2 March is, 1972 Mr. Jaquith submitted a bill from Barbara Gilson, Clerk, for $51.05 for February 1972 ($1.05 for postage and $50.00 for clerical services). It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to approve payment of this bill. Mr. Jaquith stated that the budget request for $1,725.00 for 1972 had been approved.
