HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION
The Historic Districts Commission held a meeting at 7155 P.M. on
Wednesday, January 5, 1972, in Room G15 of the Town Office Building., Lexing-~
ton. Present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman; Philip B.
Parsons, Secretary; George E. Graves; Donald J. Shaw; Georgia H. Williams;
and Associate Commissioners Albert T. Pitt and S. Laverenoe Whipple. Also
present was Judith IIhrig, representative of the League of Women Voters.
Mr. Whipple was appointed to sit for Mr. Shaw who was unable to sit on
the petition of The Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and the
Scottish Rite Masonic Library and Museum, Inc. for a Permit for Demolition
or Removal of the dwelling at 1162 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the
Munroe Tavern District. Mr. Jaquith said that he felt it was preferable to
leave Certificate of Appropriateness No. 71 C«~4 issued by the Commission on
November 23, 1971 outstanding as the Certificate becomes null and void on
January 2, 1975 in arxy event. Mr. Jaquith then presented drawings showing
the 200' line and the proposed building locations and read a Permit which he
had prepared with a few minor changes inserted. Mr. Graves moves that the
Permit for the Demolition or Removal for the dwelling on the premises at
1162 Massachusetts Avenue voted at the December 29, 1971 meeting in the form
presented to the meeting and revised by the Commission be approved. Mrs.
Williams seconded the motion. Four (Mr. Jaquith, Mr. Graves, Mra. Williams,
and Mr. Whipple) VOTED in favor and one (Mr. Parsons) VOTED against the motion.
Mr. Jaquith then read the Notice of Determination disapproving the sign
for the store at 1796 Massachusetts Avenue which had been VOTED at the meets
ing on December 8, 1971.
Mr. Jaquith subam.tted a bill dated December 31, 1971 from Barbara Filson, ~
Clerk, for $x.00 (cler3.ca1 servioes = $68.75 and postage and stamps =.$29.25).
It was moved, seconded, and unanimously YOTED to approve this bill. Mr.
Jaquith stated that the Commission ended 1971 with a surplus of about $65.00
Mr. Jaquith stated that he expected to receive an application regarding
the property at 10-12 Muzsey Street and that a hearing on the Permit for
Demolition or Removal of the buildings on the premises and for a Certificate
of Appropriateness for a new building would be scheduled for February 16, 1972.
Mrs. Williams stated that she had received a couple of calls regarding
the removal of the house at 1162 Massachusetts Avenue. Shw also said that
she had talked with Robert Cataldo, Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, about
this and that he feels it is very important that the 200'' strip remain open.
