HomeMy WebLinkAbout1970-09-09 HISTORIC DI§1'RIC2S COMNffSSION MINUTES OF A HEFTING HFLD ON SEPTEM~Ft,9,.1970 The Historic Districts Commission held a meeting on Wednesday, September 9, 1970, in the Bird Room of the Cary Memorial Building, Lexington. Present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman; George E. Graves.; Max H. Straw; Georgia H. Williams; and Associate Commissioners George W. Emery; Franklin C. Hudson;. and S. Lawrence Whipple. Mr. Jaquith called the meeting to order at 7c30 P.M. Mr. Jaquith appointed. Mr. Hudson to serve for Philip B. Parsons who was unable to attend. It was moved, secornled, and unanimously VOTED that Mrs. Williams serve as Secretary Pro Tem. Mr. Jaquith read a letter from Richard Bazarian withdraxing his appli- cation for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to architectural changes on the building at 807 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the East Village District. It was moved, seconded, and unanin~usly V01ED to accept this application for withdrawal and that the Chairman so write. Mr. Bazarian. Mr. Jaquith read a letter from Joseph Hasa, Lexington Flower Shop re- questing aCertificate of Appropriateness for a sign for the afore at 18§i Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District. The hearing on this application was scheduled for Thursday, October 1, 1970. A bill for clerical services and expenses for $68.05 was submitted from Barbara Gilson, Clerk. It was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOID to ap- prove payment of this bill. A hearing xas held on the application of John L. acid Jean Ann Harrigan for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to changes in colors of the dwelling and attached garage at 1347 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Munroe Tavern District. It was moved, seconded,. and unanimously VOTED to is- sus.aCertificate of Appropriateness following discussion of the proposed color changes. Participating in__this decision were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith,. George E. Graves, Max H. Straw, Georgia H. Williams, and Associate Commissioner Franklin C. Hudson. A hearing was bald on the application of the Lexington Historical Society for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to changes in color of the Hancock-Clarke House at 35 Hancock Street, which is within the Hancock-Clarke District. Mr. Emery was appointed to serve for Mr. Parsons who was absent. Following discussion, it was moved, seconded, and unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness. Participating in this decision were Commis- ' stoners Wilbur M. Jaquith, George E. Graves, Max H. Straw, Georgia H. Williams, and Associate Commissioner George W. Emery.
