MINTJTES OF A MEETING HELD ON APRIL 2, 1970
The Historic Districts Commission held a meeting on Thursday, April
2, 1970, at 7:,5 P.P4. in the Conference Room, Visitors Center, Lexington.
Nemkx:rs present were Commissioners Afax H. Straw, George E. Graves, Georgia
li. ~~illiams, and Associate Commissioners George td. Emery, Franklin C,
Hudson, and C. Lawrarce WYiipple. It was moved, seconded, and VOTED that
Nir. S},xaw serve as Chairman Pro Tem. The chair appointed Mr, Hudson to
servo for Wilbur Iii. Jaquith who was unable to be present and A;r. Emery to
serve for Philip B. Parsons who was arable to be present, It was moved,

A hearing was held on tl~e application of The Roman Catholic Arch-
bishop of Roston, a Corporation Sole for a Certificate of Appropriateness
with respect to the erection of access ramps for the front entrance of
St. Brigid' Church Building on Massachusetts Avenue, Yahch is ~rithin the
Battle Green District. Present for the C1YUrch were James E. Burlage,
Architect; T~'illiam G. Graham; Robert Harris, a paraplegic; and I.1r. & Mrs.
Carl. Anderson of West Brookfield (Airs, Anderson is a paraplegic , Air.
Straw read the leUal notice for this hearing and also a report submitted
to the Council of St. Brigid's Church last fall regarding the erection of
tho access ramps. Three set:: of scale drawings of the proposed access
ramps and photographs of the ramp and the front of St. Brigid's Charch
were sub~-aitted.. Following discussiorY, the representatives of the Church
withdrew at 8:4j P.ri. It was moved, svcon+3c.'., and usranimousl;; 'D to
issue a Certificate of i?ppropriatenass to the Raman Catholic Archbishop of
Boston, a Corporation Sole for the erection and maintenance of access
ramps for the front entrarYCe cf St. Brigid's Church Building. Participating
in this decision were Commissioners A"aX H. Straw, GeorgE E. Graves, Georgia
II. ~•Tilliam , and Associate Commissioners George tit. Emery and, Franklin C.

A letter was .read from Louis Zehner, President of the Arts and Crafts
