14?IPiUTES OF ADJOURNED P?EETING HELD ON DECEP~(BI~;R 18, 1968
The Historic Districts Commission held a.n adjourned meeting on
JVednesday, December 18, 1968, at 7:45 P,M., in the Selectmen's Room,
Town Office Building, Lexington. lt~fembers present were Commissioners
Nilbur M, Jaquith, Chairman, Philip B. Parsons, Secretary, Ruth G.
Bevan, CTeor~c E. Graves and P:4ax H. Straw and Associate Commissioner
George ~Y. Emery.
An informal meeting was held at 7:!}5 P,2h. with respect to signs
that have been erected and displayed on the roofs of Lexington Cab
Co., Inc taxicabs. Present were Richard Zimmerman, President of the
cab company, Arthur Herald, Ag®nt for the William E. Whaley Co. and
George E. Rowe, Jr. who represented Rovre Chevrolet, Inc., one of two
advertisers presently displayed on the taxicabs. Frederick J. Con-
roy, Esquire appeared briefly at the meeting but did not partici-
pate. ?iscussion was held as to the proper applicant to submit ar_
application for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to
the signs. 3~'_r. Herald will submit the application at a later date.
The informal meeting was closed at 9;25 P.1~~.
The Chairman read to the members a letter received from A1b~rt
Gray, Jr., Executive Assistant to the Selectmen, stating that Lincoln
P. Cole, Jr. had resigned as Chairman of the Board of Selectmen and i
that Robert Cataldo was the newly elected Chairman. A letter re-
ceived by the Chairman of the Commission from Chairman Cataldo was
also read. The letter named the following appointments as Associate
Commissioners:
S. Lawrence Whipple
Franklin C. Hudson
Gladys Moore
The Chairman dictated letters of welcome to the new members of
the Commission. Letters also. dictated to the Clerk were sent to
n:fir. Robert 0. Tillinghast v~rith respect to the property being restored
by him at 1.P73 ?;~assachnsetts Avenue where a second floor window with
one pane was installed instead of an Anderson casement window shown
on plans under which a Certificate of Appropriateness was issued and
to Village Artisans, Inc. with respect to signs and a banner being
displayed at the shop at 1632 Iviassachusetts Avenue for which a Cer-
tificate of Appropriateness has not been issued.
The next meeting nights arc scheduled for January 8, 1969 at
7:L}5 P.M. and January 15, 1969 at 7:30 P.I~T, If extensions from
January 15, 1969 are received from the pending applications of First
Parish Church and Frederic K. and Marjorie S. Johnson, the January 8th
meeting will be cancelled.
The adjourned meeting was adjourned at 10. 0 P. .
