HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968-10-30 • • a MINUTES OF ADJOURNED MEETING HELD ON OCTOBER 30, 1968 The Lexington Historic Districts Commission held an adjourned meeting on Wednesday, October 30, 1968, in the Selectman's Room, Town Office Building. Members present were Commissioners Wilbur R2. Jaquith, Chairman, Philip B. Parsons, Secretary, Ruth G. Bevan, George E. Graves and Max H. Straw and Associate Commissioner George W. Emery. Adjourned hearing was held at 7:45 P.NI. on the application for a Certificate of Appropriateness by Hanlon~s Shoes with respect to the erection and display of a sign for the store at 1725 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District. The Chairman showed the Commission a sample oP matte plcxiglas forwarded to him by Mr. Shear of Back Bay Sign Co., Inc. Discussion was held and the Com- mission members recessed to view the store and the proposed location of the sign on the building. nor. Jaquith will contact Mr. Shannon, the Manager of the store, with regard to the submission of new scaae drs.wings with modifications suggested by Commission members as to size of the sign, size of lettering and a lighting hood. The adjourned hearing was adjourned at 9:00 P.M. Adjourned hearing was held at 9:05 P.M. on the application of Joseph and Theodora F. E. (Kalem) Grano for a Certificate of Appropriate- ness with respect to the erection of a two car shed at 611 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the East Village District. After discussion, upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate to the applicant with modifications included that were dis- cussed with and approved by the applicant. A copy of the Certificate issued will be forwarded to the Board of Appeals. The adjourned hearing was closed at 9:45 P•M• ~ The Chairman advised the Commission that Harold Stevens, Esquire had informed him that the I~TCw York office of Shell Oil Company was not in favor of changing the design of the standing sign for the Service Station now under construction at 1095 Massachusetts Avenue. The Chairman also advised that he had received a letter from Stephen Russian, Esquire with regard to the Trani property at 1037-1049 Massachusetts Avenue. Tha latter did not clearly state whether or not the property had been sold by Mr. Trani. The next meeting night is scheduled for November 13, 1968 to consider the applications of Wendel3. H. Burgess for the installation of aluminum combination storm windows at 2 NTa11is-Court and of Hancock Congregational Church for a Certificate to maintain four ventilators on the roof of the building; at 1912 P.Iasstchusetts Avenue. F. (Kalem) Grano withrespeato the erection of a two car shed, as set forth below, at ' 611 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the East Village District. The location of the shed is to be approximately as shown on Plot Plan { entitled "Theodora F. E. (Kalem) Grano, 611 Rassachusetts Avenue" sub- witted to the Commission at the hearing on. October 23, 1968. The general style, layout, dimensions and details of the design of the shed appear on the sketch submitted to the Commission at said hearing pro- vided that the design of the shed as appearing on said sketch shall be 1 modified as follows: ~ 1. The outside dimensions of the building at the base shall be 20' x 20' 2. The panes of the windows on the westerly elevation shall be 6 over 6 I ~ 3• The southerlg window on the westerly elevation shall I be centered beneath the peak of the gable. The lo- cation of both windows on this elevation shall be such that the top of the window openings are at the same height as the top of the doorway openings on the south elevation ~ The doorways of the shed shall be finished with ?4" board trim and the doorway shall be approximately 8' in width by 7' in height 5. The flooring. of the shed may be cement, blacktop or gravel as deteT'mined by the applicant The shed may be set on posts or a cement foundation as deterrlined by the applicant and if a cement foundation not more than 1' of the foundation shall be exposed to view. All wood finish and the windows are to be painted white and the cedar shingles shall be left in their natural color.
