HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968-07-10 • • MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON JULY 10, 1968 The Lexington Historic Districts Commission held a meeting on Wed- nesday, July 10, 1968, in the Selectments Room, Town Office Building. Members present were Commissioners Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman, Philip B. Parsons, Secretary, Ruth G. Bevan, George E. Graves and Max H. Straw. Hearing was held at 7:30 P.M. on the application of Ellen H. G. Bryant for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the erection of a fence on the premises at 1948 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District. Mr. and Mrs. Bryant appeared and presented a bro- chure picturing the chain-link fencing and photographs of the premises . Changes had been made in the type of fencing and its location and the Chair- man advised the applicant that the Commission members would view the pro- perty and he requested that she return with Plot Plans to the meeting to be held on July 31, 1968. Hearing was adjourned at 8:05 P.M. At 8:10 P.M. Frederick J. Conroy, Esq. appeared for an informal meeting on the application of Frederic K. and Marjorie S. Johnson with respect to a Permit for Demolition or Removal of the front portion of the existing retail automobile service station building and related retail automobile service station facilities on the premises at 39 Bedford Street, their application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the erection of a new retail auto- mobile service station building and related automobile service station facilities on said premises and their application for a Certificate of Ap- propriateness for the erection and display of signs including a free stand- ing sign for said building on said premises, which is within the Battle Green District. A formal hearing is scheduled for July 31, 1968. Discus- sion was held on plans with the applicant Mr. Johnson, Mr. C . Crowley, District Manager for the Gulf Oil Company, Mr. R. Kuchsarn, Construction Engineer for Gulf and Mr. Donald Summers, Sales Representative for Gulf. The informal meeting was adjourned at 9:45 P.M. Adjourned hearing was held at 9:50 P.M. with applicant Robert 0. Til- linghast. This particular building at 475 Massachusetts Avenue was general- ly mentioned in the overall proposal at the initial hearing held on March 21, 1968. Mr. Tillinghast presented scale drawings of the proposed restoration and alteration of the existing dwelling at 475 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the East Village District. After discussion, upon motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate of Approp- riateness to the applicant for the restoration and alteration of the dwell- ing as noted above. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was also unani- mously VOTED at this time to issue a Permit for Demoltion or Removal to the applicant with respect to the demolition or removal of the one story ell attached to the easterly elevation of the dwelling at 475 Massachusetts Avenue . No other persons having appeared the adjourned hearing was adjourned at 10:45 P.M. The Chairman advised the Commission that a hearing was scheduled for August 7, 1968 to consider the application of Ye Olde Bargain Barn for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the erection and display of two signs . Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously VOTED that as of June 1, 1968 the hourly salary of the Clerk would be advanced from 12.00 to $2.50 an hour. The general style, layout, disonsions and details of the design of the' dwelling as restored and altered appear en or may be *paled from elevation drawing and a floor plea drawing of the dNlling by C. The blinds on the front doer are to be painted blastic. Light fixtures may be installed few the front deer and the front door of the ens story ell provided that the type and style of fixtures is submitted to and approved by the Commission prior to installation. The second floor balcony at the near of the northwester) elevation may be changed as to dimensions at the option of the applicant.
