HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968-04-10 S S MINUTES OF ADJOURNED MEETING HELD ON APRIL 10, 1968 The Lexington Historic Districts Commission held an adjourned meeting on Wednesday, April 10, 1968, in the Selectmen' s Room, Town Office Building. Members present were Commissioners Max H. Straw, elected upon motion duly made and seconded and unanimously VOTED Chairman Pro Tempore, due to the absence of Chairman Wilbur M. Ja- quith, Philip B. Parsons, Secretary, Ruth G. Bevan and George E. Graves and Associate Commissioner George W. Emery. Adjourned hearing was held at 7:30 P.M. on the application of Village Artisans, Inc. for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the erection and display of a sign for the building at 1632 Massachusetts Avenue, which is Within the Battle Green Dis- trict. Mrs. Vivian Wolfe appeared and presented scale drawings of the proposed sign. After discussion and agreement on a modifica- tion in size of the sign, upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate to the applicant. No other persons having appeared, the adjourned hearing was closed at 8:00 P.M. Adjourned hearing was held at 8:05 P.M. on the application of Lexington Sister City Committee for a Certificate of Appropriate- ness with respect to the erection and display of a sign at 13 Depot Square, which is within the Battle Green District. No one appeared in behalf of the applicant, but the Chairman Pro Tempore read a letter from Mrs. Charles Crothers, a member of the Committee. Mrs. Crothers explained that the Building Inspector had approved of the use of an existing sign on the premises. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate to the applicant. No other persons having appeared, the adjourned hearing was closed at 8:50 P.M. The next meeting night is scheduled for Wednesday, April 24, 1968, in the Selectmen' s Room, Town Office Building. The meeting was adjourned at 9:55 P.M. Philip B. Parsons Secretary April 17, 1968 TOWN OF LEXIN•ON /5;4: Massachusetts ae �G a <47Z7.- HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS This certificate is issued pursuant to Chapter 447, Acts of Massachusetts, 1956, as amended, to Village Artisans, Inc . with respect to the erection and display of a sign for the building as noted below, at 1632 Massachusetts Avenue which is within the Battle Green District The sign is to be located on the Massachusetts Avenue front eleva- tion of the said building suspended and centered under the porch roof beam. The sign is to bear the legend: " Village Artisans inc . " The design, layout and style of the lettering and of the sign appear on a scale drawing submitted to the Commission at the adjourned hearing on April 10, 1968. The letters of the sign are to be in black outline on a white signboard. As a modification of the sketch as submitted to the Commission it is provided that the height and width of the sign shall each be reduced as nearly as possible to twenty-four inches (24" ) . With reference to the display of the sign it shall be suspended close under the specified beam without the use of a bracket as sketched. Straw Certificate No. CHAIRMAN Pro Tempore Hp-Is", TOWN OF LEXINPON ,AMORN , 4111 N Massachusetts .•rnroM 4e1Nt.T°' HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS This certificate is issued pursuant to Chapter 447, Acts of Massachusetts, 1956, as amended, to Lexington Sister City Committee with respect to the erection and display of a sign as noted below, at 13 Depot Square which is within the Battle Green District The sign is to be located parallel to Massachusetts Avenue near the northerly elevation of the Depositors Trust Building attached perpendicularly to the face of the building in the position of the existing sign. The sign is to bear on two faces the legend: "The Mexican Shop La Tienda" and may bear the symbol of clasped hands at the lower left corner also outlined in black on a white background measuring 8" x 20" . The general design, layout and size of lettering and symbol appear on or may be scaled from a drawing submitted to the Commission at its adjourned meeting on April 10, 1968. The style of the letters in that portion of the legend "The Mexican Shop" shall be thick and thin Roman and "La Tienda" shall be in single stroke Gothic .
