that oerreotisns en the drawings should be made before a Certificate
could try issued. Also, there wee the problem et removal sr demolition
of an existing shed en the property. Mr. Ray will return with the
corrected plans.

This certificate is issued pursuant to Chapter 447, Acts of Massachusetts, 1956, as amended, to

second floor front elevation of the premises

The sign is to bear the legend:

and is to be located above the middle window of the second floor
front office at the easterly end of the building at said numbered
premises . The sign is to be centered above the window between the
top of the blinds and the bottom of the cornice molding, as shown
on drawing submitted to the Commission at the adjourned hearing on
August 16, 1967. The letters of the sign are to be of out-out
white plexiglas and fastened to a clear strip of plexiglas which is
to be pegged to the brickwork of the building. The design, layout,
style and size of lettering of the sign appear on the aforesaid
drawing.
In issuing this Certificate for a sign of the size and in the location
involved, the Commission has taken into consideration the architec-
ture of the specific building involved. The issuance of this
Certificate does net constitute evidence of compliance with the sign
By-law or any other By-law of the Town of Lexington.

This certificate is issued pursuant to Chapter 447, Acts of Massachusetts, 1956, as amended, to

with respect to the erection and display of a sign on thee
building
as noted below, at 1690 Massachusetts Avenue
which is within the Battle Green District
The sign is to be located on the Massachusetts Avenue front elevation
of the building as shown on the drawing entitled "Proposed Alteration
to Front of existing building, 1690-1710 Massachusetts Ave ., Lexing-
ton, Massachusetts Central Lexington Real Estate Trust Owners" dated
November 29, 1966 and revised August 8, 1967 submitted to the Commis-
sion on August 16, 1967. The sign is to bear the legend:
" YE OLDE BARGAIN BARN
Quality Family Apparel"- _
The letters of that part of the sign "Ye Olde Bargain Barn" are to be
hand-carved wooden letters covered with gold leaf, and, the letters of
that part of the sign "Quality family apparel" are to be cut-out wood
letters painted white . All letters are to be fastened flush to the
brickwork of the front elevation wall. The design, layout, style and
size of lettering of the sign appear on a scale drawing by Sheer Sign
Co. , Inc ., Waltham submitted to the Commission. The over-all height
of the sign from the bottom of the lowest letters to the top of the
highest letter is not to exceed three (3) feet.
The sign may be illuminated by single tube flourescent lamps of
medium light intensity installed in the hood above the sign.

features of the building
as noted below, at 1690-1710 Massachusetts Avenue
which is within the Battle Green
District
The changes all pertain to the front elevation of the building. The
detail of the design, layout, dimensions and types of building materials
comprising the changes all appear on two scale drawings, one entitled
"Proposed Alteration to Front of existing building, 1690-1710 Massachu-
setts Ave. , Lexington, Massachusetts , Central Lexington Real Estate Trust
Owners", and the other entitled "New Store Front for Ye Olde Bargain
Barn ( in existing building) No. 1690 Massachusetts Avenue Lexington
Massachusetts, Central Lexington Real Estate Trust Owner&' dated
August 8, 1967 and detailed specifications entitled "work to be done"
submitted to the Commission at the hearing on August 16, 1967. All
woodwork including the entrance to No. 1698 Massachusetts Avenue, but,
excluding the doors at said Street Number and the cast stone pilasters
at each end of the store No. 1698 Massachusetts Avenue and the black
bulkheads beneath said pilasters are to be painted white. The doors at
No. 1698 Massachusetts Avenue are to be painted a dark green color to
match the color of the doors at No . 1700. The hoods and lighting fix-
tures to bb erected for the signs for the stores at No. 1690 and
No. 1700 Massachusetts Avenue are not to extend outward from the brick-
work of the building more than eighteen (18) inches, and the hoods are
to be installed in such manner that the flourescent tubing is not visible
from Massachusetts Avenue . The hoods of the lighting fixtures are to be
of white anodized aluminum approximately four (t ) inches wide and the
brackets or piping for the lighting fixtures are to be painted white.

The sign is to be located on the easterly elevation of the building
at a height of approximately five (5) feet between the pavement
and the bottom of the sign and is not to be located closer than
four (4) feet from the front elevation of the building. The sign
is to bear the legend:
"Private Parking
Parking iia this area
Restricted to customers of”
and there may be added to this legend the names of the tenants from
time to time occupying the building. The sign is to be of plywood
or masonite surrounded by a wooden molding and is to be fastened
flush to the brick wall of the easterly elevation. The dimensions,
s#yle, layout and types of lettering all appear on a drawing entitled
"Sign at Entrance to Parking Area, Central Lexington Real Estate
Trust Owners" dated August 16, 1967 submitted to the Commission at
the hearing on August 16, 1967. The letters of the sign are to be
black on an all white background.

The first sign is to be located on the Massachusetts Avenue front
elevation of the building as shown on scale drawing by University
Sign Co., Inc. , Boston dated July 6, 1967, being#1 of 2 drawings
submitted to the Commission at the hearing on August 16, 1967. The
sign is to bear the legend:
"Colpitts Travel Center"
and the letters of the sign are to be of dull finish black plexiglas
matching the sample submitted to the Commission at the hearing. The
sign is also to include a symbol containing the letter "C" approxi-
mately fourteen (14) inches high with a segmented globe approximately
three (3) inches in diameter inside the letter "C" . The letter "C"
and the globe are to be of dull finish black plexiglas mounted on a
plexiglas background approximately eighteen ( 18) inches square of a
dull finish blue color similar to the sample submitted to the Commis-
sion at the hearing. The design, layout, style and size of the lettering
of the sign appear on or may be scaled from the aforesaid drawing #1 of
2.
The second sign is to be located on the Depot Square side elevation of
the building, as shown on scale drawing by University Sign Co. , Inc .,
Boston dated July 6, 1967 being #2 of 2 drawings submitted to the
Commission at the hearing. The second sign is to bear the same legend

This certificate is issued pursuant to Chapter 447, Acts of Massachusetts, 1956, as amended, to
Wilson Farms, Inc .
with respect to the erection of a two-family dwelling
as noted below, at 6 Massachusetts Avenue
which is within the E30 V44,.sp. District
The general style, layout, dimensions and details of the design and
materials of the building appear on a set of four drawings entitled
"2 Family Res. Mass. Ave. Lexington #556", dated Aug. 67, by Roger A.
Petrie, submitted to the Commission at the adjourned hearing on August
16, 1967. The location of the building on the lot is shown on plot plan
by Albert A Miller and Wilbur C. Nylander, Civil Engineers & Surveyors,
dated July 27, 1967, submitted to the Commission on August 2, 1967.
All woodwork, except the shutters, and all downspouts are to be painted
white and the shutters and metal bulkhead are to be painted a dark green
color. The front and rear entrance lights are to be finished in a black
color. All windows and window sash are to be of wood and have wood mun-
tins. No more of the fourdation walls are to be exposed than is shown
on said drawings and the exposed part of the walls are to be left in
their natural concrete color.
The Commission reserves the right to require at any time within one year
after the date of issuance of the occupancy permit for the building the
installation of shutters for such windows of the rear elevation as the
Commission shall determine to be appropriate, such shutters to be painted
the same shade of dark green as the other shutters installed on the
building.
