HomeMy WebLinkAbout1967-04-05 411 Apr K, 1967 The Historic Districts Commission met at the time and place specified in the public notice of hearing on the application for a Certificate of Ap propriateness by Harold L . Brehm, D.D .S . with respect to the erection of a fence and post lights, and erection and display of a sign on the premises at 1644 Massachusetts Avenue and 1 Wallis Court , which is within the Battle Green District . The Chairman read the notice of hearing. Dr. and Mrs . Brehm appeared in their own behalf and presented scale drawings of the fence and post lights and a sign drawing by Roger A. Petrie . After consideration of the drawings it was requested that Dr . Brehm return at a later date with scale drawings showing changes suggested by the commission with respect to the placement of the fence and planters, the style of the posts and lights, and the exact scale and legend of the sign. "To abutters having appeared, the hearing was adjourned at P 25 P .M. Members present were Wilbur M. Jaquith, Max H. Straw, Ruth G. Bevan, George E . Graves, Philip B. Parsons and Associate Commissioner George W. Emery. Hearing was held at 8 26 P.M. on the application of Robert 0 . Tillinghast with respect to the erection of a two family dwelling on the premises at 859 Massachusetts Avenue , which is within the East Village District. The Chairman read the notice of hearing Mr. Tillinghast presented scale drawings by George D . Reynolds, Jr. , Architect, Arlington, Massa- chusetts . Mr. Birchall, Builder, was also present . After discussion as to changes with respect to the design and position of the exterior front door, and, a canopy and possible changes in the porch and stair railings at the exterior rear door, it was requested that Mr. Tillinghast return at a later date with scale drawings showing the pro- posed revisions . Abuttors Mrs . Edmund P. Hoxie, 88L -886 Massachusetts Avenue, and Mrs . Clifton B . Daniels, 881-883 Massachusetts Avenue appeared at the hearing. Mrs . Hoxie questionned facilities for parking and said that she felt that a hip-roof would be non-conforming with other homes in the area. Pyr. Jacquith explained that a sloping roof would face Massachusetts Avenue . Mr Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman retired from the meeting, and motion was made and seconded that Max. H. Straw be Chairman Pro Tempore for the c^nsideration of the issuance of a Certificate of Appropriateness to Athens Realty Trust with respect to the erection of proposed new structures at 32-38 Bedford Street and with respect to the erection and display of additional signs for said premises, which is within the Battle Green District . Mr. Straw presented the details and wording of the proposed Certificate . After discussion, upon motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate to Athens Realty Trust. Participating in this decision were Max H. Straw, Chairman Pro Tempore, Philip B . Parsons , Secretary, Commissioners Ruth G. Bevan and George E . Graves and Associate Commissioner George W . Brehm, D.D.S. with respect to the erection of planter boxes, fencing and three lamp posts for the premises as noted below, at 16)x.0 Massachusetts Avenue and 1 Wallis Court which is within the atilt UP rgen• District The design, layout, style, dimensions and type of materials, except as set forth below, appear on or may be scaled from a drawing en- titled "Plot Plan Of Land" and "Fence & Planter Detail Vinebrook Professional Center Dr. Harold L. Brehm" submitted to the Commission at the adjourned hearing on April 18, 1967 . The location of the planters, sections of fence and lamp posts are to be as shown on the aforesaid drawing. The lamp posts are to be of metal, painted black, and are to be capped with electric lanterns of a type, style and finish matching the sample, designated 179P, appearing on page 2 of the price list submitted to the Commission at said adjourned hearing. The lamp posts are to be approximately 6 feet in height above ground level, exclusive of the lanterns, and all wiring for the lanterns is to be underground. Brehm, D.D.S. with respect to the erection and display of a sign for the premises as noted below, at 1640 Massachusetts Avenue and 1 Wallin .Court which is within the Battle Green District The sign is to be wood construction and the dimensions, style, layout and types of lettering, other material and letters appear on a drawing entitled "Sim On Post For Dr. Rarold L. Brehm, 1 tiallis Ct. Lexington", by Roger A. Petrie, submitted to the Cor:mission at the adjourned hearing on April 18, 1967. The sign is to be hung from a bracket, pointed black, fastened to a lamp past as shown on the aforesaid drawing, and the sign and lamp post are to be located as shown on a drawing entitled "Plot Plan Of Land" and "Fence &: Planter Detail Vinebrook Professional Center Dr. =Tarold L. Brehm" submitted to the Commission et the adjourned hearing. The sign is to be painted white and the following legend in black letters is to appear on both sides of the signs Vl::EBROOK PRO ESSIO IAL CENTER 1640 '.Sass. Ave. 1 vallis Ct." The issuance of this certificate does not constitute evidence of compliance with the sign by.law or any other by-lave of the Town of Lexington.
