HomeMy WebLinkAbout1967-02-08 • February 8, 1967 The Historic Districts Cosnission met at the time and plays specified in the ;public notice of the hearing on the application of Joseph Trani, Incorporated, 'with respect to ahaves in the exterior architectural fsaturss of the building and the erection of signs on the promisee at 1775 Massachusetts avenue, which is within the Battle Orson District. Present were Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman, Ruth O. Bevan, George B. Gravest Max B. Straw and Associate Commissioner George %leery. The chairman read the notice of bearing and the letter of application. Appearing in behalf of the ayplioatien wars Mr. Joseph Trani and his architect Watson Leitch, who presented the oommtasion with scale drawings of the proposed ohangss and signs and a sample of aluminum siding. Questions were caked by the commission mestere, and the hearing was adjourned at 9124 14,11. Upon motion duly made and s.00nded, /tees unanimously VOTED to Moue a Certificate of Appropriateness to Josspb Trani Incorporated with respect to a chane in the exterior architectural features of the building at 1775 Massaohasetts Avenue, utioh is within the Wattle Green District. Upon motion duly made and ssoonded, it was unanimously VOTT) to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness to Joseph Trani Incorporated with respect to the emotion and display of two signs tar the first floor store of the building at 1775 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Orion District. The *hairs= stated that he had received a letter of application from Charles H. Cole regarding signs to be erected on the building of 1775 Realty Trust. Hearings will be sc aedraled for March 8, 1967. The chairmen stated that be had received a bill from 0incock ,Tess in the amount of $59.00. The first sign is to be located on the front elevation of the building, dssigeated *Massachusetts Avenue Qlevstion" on the aforesaid drawing, and is to boar the legends "Joseph Trani Inc. - Liquors 1775" The stoned sign is to lin located on the east elevation of the buildings designated "Side li] evatte's" on the aforesaid drawing and is to bear the legends "Mines" The lettering and numerals of the signs are to bs of solid plastics of a bleak color approximately to thick and are to be fastened to the fries* of the building as sheen en the aforesaid drawing. lbs signs nay be illuminated by lights recessed in the cornice molding above the signs oonsistiag of single florescent tubing of medium light intensity end having a total length of vproximetely 16 feet for the sign on the front elevation end a total length oi! a,.proxinatsly 8 feet for the sign on the west elevation. The change consists of covering with alurcinrm clapboard siding the exposed concrete block well surfaces on the front and east elevations of the building and that portion of the exposed west elevation between the front of the building and its intersection kith the roof of the nee building at 1777 - 1703 Massachusetts Aveaas, each simulated clapboard to hove an exposure to the weather of approximately tour inches. The front and east elevations as changed by the .installation of said aluminum siding appear on a drawing entitled "Zlevations Sheat A-2 Trani Store Renovation", Ch Charles H. Crile 2nd Aro) eat, dated July 1, 1965 and revised February 8,, 1967, submitted to the commission at the hearing on February 8, 1967. All aluminum siding is to be the some barn red color as the sample submitted tothe commission by the applicant at the hearing on Fsbrsa.-7 8, 1967. All wood trim, sash and shutters on all elevations are to be painted white. All conductors, air conditioner louvers and other louvers, except the louver beneath the first floor window on the front elevation, and the louvers in the east add west roofs,- ere to be painted a shade of barn red to match as nearly as possible the red of the alttainsa siding. The aforesaid louvers in the roofs aro to be painted a shade at color to match the asphalt roof shingles and the louver beneath the first flaorfront window is to be painted white. The train entrance aluminum door is to be finished is annodiaed brooms. Blank plastic numerals "1775^ a„proxixately 21 inches high sag be affixed to the upper portion of the shutters on t hs front and east elevations of the building.
