HomeMy WebLinkAbout1966-11-30 r November 30, 1966 The Historic Districts Commission met at the time and plats specified in the public n ce of the hearing on the application of Lexington Federal Savings and Loan Association for a Permit to Demolish the buildings Located at 1832 - 1$38 Massachusetts Avenue, which is .thin the Battle Green District. Present wero Wilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman, Philip B, Parsons, Secretary,. George E. Graves, Ruth G. Bevan and Max H. ,Straw and Association Commissioners Carl E. Bryant and Donald B. White. Mr. Bryant and Mr. White represented Commissioners Bevan and Straw on the first two hearings. The chairman read the notice of hearing and the letter of application. Mr, Gardner Ferguson of Lexington Federal Savings and Loan Association and Mr. Whitten of Hutchins ~C French, Architect, of Boston, represented the applicant and answered questions asked by t he commission meters, Upon motion duly m~lde and. seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to issue a Permit for Demolition to Le::in~ton Federal Savings & Loan Association for the demolition of the present buildings at 1832 - 1838 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District„ The chairman read the nvtico of the hewing on the application of Lexington Federal Savings and Loan Association for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to changes in the exterior architectural features of the buildings and to changes in the signs on the buildings at 1832 - 18?~0 Massachusetts, which is within the Battle Green District. The chairman stated that due to an error in the legal notice advertisement, the hearing ~ ll be adjourned until Wednesday, December 1lt. However, since the applicatnt was prosent at the hearing, it was agreed that the s eels drawings of the proposed building be shown to the commission mombers and those present. Hearing was held at 8:50 r,~. on the application of J. Rush for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the removal of the sign at 1736 Massachusetts Avenue and the erection of tie sign at 14 Waltham Street, which is within the Battle Green District. The chairman read the notice of hearing and the letter of ~ plication. Mr, Rush was present in his own behalf and presented the commission with a sample of the type of lett~~ to be used on the sign as well as photographs showing the original. sign and the proposed location of the sign on ~'JSltham Street. Many questions were asked Mr. Rush and it was agreed that Mr. Rush plan to meet on December 1l~. with the commission and to present a scale drawing of the proposed dign at that time. Hearing was held on the application of Felix Realty Trust for a Certificate of ApAropriateness rri.th respect to changes in the exterior architectural featcu~es of the building at 1806 - 1810 Massachusetts Avenue on the corner of Muzzey Street, which is v0. thin the Battle Green District, ~`he chairman read the notice o£ hearing and the le tter of application. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it wasunanimously VC+PED to issue a Certificate of Ap~opriateness to Trustees of Felix Realty Trust with respect to changesinthe exterior architectural features of the building at 1806 - 1810 Massachusetts Avenue on the corner of Muzzey Street, within the Battle Green District„ Hearing was held on the application of Monument Realty Trust, John E. Boling, Trustee, for a Permit to Demolish a portion of the buildings at 18 MuzzeyStreet, which is within the Battle Green Di3a~ict. Mr. Bow ng sp peered in his own behalf and presented the commission with a scale drawing of the oposed demolition. Questions wen asked by the commission members and the hearing was ~~ourned at 10:00 P.;d. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously YOTED to issue a Permit for Demolition of Existing Buildings to John E. Hoeing, Trustee, Monument Realty Trust, for the demolition of the present garage building at 18 Muzzey Street located between the existing dwelling and the barn at 18 Muzzey :Street, which is within t hs Battle Green District, Hearing was held at 1Os00 P.M. on the applic ation of Trustees of the 1775 Realty Trust for aCertificate of Appropriateness with respect to the amendment to Certificate of Appropriateness No. 157, as amended by Certificate of Appropriateness No. 170, previously issued with respect to the erection of a one story building on the lot whit h is bounded southwesterly by Massachusetts Avenue and northwesterly by Depot Square, which is within the Battle Green District. The chairman read the notice of hearing and the letter of applic ation. Appearing in behalf of 1775 Realty Trust were Mr. Frederick Conroy and Charles H. Cole, Architect, who presented tY» commission with scale drawings of the proposed changes. Questions ware asked by the commission members. The hsalring was adjourned at 1Os25 P. M. Upan motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously YOTED to issue an Amendment to Certificate of Appropriateness to Hugo afa.ienza, James Stevens, Joseph Trani, Trustees of the 177§ Realty Z~rust with respect to the exterior architectural features of the one stor,~ building referred to and described in Certificate No. .157 issued by the commission on i February 5, 1966, and amended by Certificate No. 170 issued by the commission on May 26, 19Es6. Mr. YYilliam Hamilton of Asbury Street, appeared before the commission asked the procedure to obtain a certificate of appropriateness and if a foundation could bs built before the certificate was issued. Mr. Hamilton stated that hm would write a letter to th® commission requesting a hearing. The chairman stated that hs had received a call from Parker Hirtis, Chairman of the Building Committee of the First Parish Church, asking for an informal meeting with the commission. It was agreed that th ® commission would meet with Mr. Hirtls at 7:30 P.I,~i' on ~ednasday, Decembsr7 in the Town Accountant's Room. The chairm~ stated that he has reijuestsd a "Transfer of F ands" from the Board of SYelsctmen in order to pay tyre 1966 bills. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED that the commission pay the outstanding bills of Minute Man Publications, Inc., and Elizabeth Adam for work through August 31, 1966.
