HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-12-13 r~ December 13, 1965 The members of the Historic Districts Commission met at 8:15 P. M, with the Board of Selectmen aid discussed the possibility of re-lettering the existing sign at the foot of Meriam Str ut so that it could be used as the directional sign boas to the new Public Facilities Building and to the Municipal Parking lot. The selectmen VOTED to make application to the commission to re- letter said sign, and it is the understanding of the members of the commission that the Public Informational Building Committee will withdraw so much of its pending application as it relates to an additional sign for use solely in conrioction with the new building. Present were Donal A. Grant, Chairman, Philip B. Parsons, Secretary, Wilbur M. Jaquith, George E. Graves, Ruth Bevaa and Associate Comm-ssioner Max H. Straw. At 8s1~5 P.M. the members of the commission met in the Conference Room, Police Building. The chairman stated that ha had written a letter dated December 10, 1 965, to Charles F. Mooney, M« D. regarding the sign pGreek Orthodox Church" erected at the foot of Meriam Street, ad3acent to the Battle Green. The chairman stated that he had talked to Donald Irwin, Buildings Inspector and Myron Graffam, d/b/a Minute Ma.n Stamps, with regard to the two proposed signs to be erected on the building at 6 Muzzey Street. Mr. Irwin stated that two signs to be used on the building would be in violation of the Sign By-Law of the Town of Lexington, and Mr« Graffam agreed to the erection of only one signs the one facing Massachusetts Avenue« Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED t© issue a Certificate of Appropriateness to Myron Graffam, d/b/a Minute Man Stamps with respect to the erection and display of a sign to be erected on the second floor level of the northeasterly elevation of the building at ~ Muzzey Street, which is within t he Battle Green Bistri~t. Discussion was had with regard to the application of the "Public Facilities and Information Center Committee" for a Certificate of Appropriateness for additional lighting on the Public Facilites Building, Which is within the Battle Green District. The booklet which contained the proposed lighting fixture which was submitted to the commission at the mseting on December 9, 1865, was studied by the members of the commission. It was agreed that Mr. Parsons discuss the proposed lighting with Mr. Leslie York and the committee, and further action will be deferred until the next meeting of the commission on January 5, 1966.
