HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-12-08 December 8, 1965 IllkThe Historic Districts Commission met at the time and place specified in e public notice of the hearing on the application of the "Public Facilities and ormation Center Committee" for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the erection and display of a sign on the Buckman Tavern Property and for additional lighting on the new Historical Information Building, which is within the Battle Green District. Present were Donald R. Grant, Chairman, Philip B. Parsons, Secretary, Wilbur M. Jaquith, George E. Graves, Ruth Bevan and Associate Commissioner Max H. Straw. The chairman read the notice of hearing and the letter of application, Mr. Levi Burnell, a member of the Public Facilities and Information Center Committee and Mr. C. Harry Erickson, Architect, appeared in behalf of the application and presented to the commission scale drawings of the proposed signs to be used in connection with the building. Mr. Erickson had photographs showing the signs now in the area, and these were viewed by the commission members. Questions were also asked. The hearing was adjourned at 8:30 P.M. The commission had discussion with regard to the proposed sign and its location. It was agreed that the commission meet with the Selectmen at their next meeting on Monday, December 13, 1965, and discuss the proposed sign as well as other signs on the Buckman Tavern property. It was further agreed that an adjourned meeting be held on this application after the meeting with the Selectmen on Monday, December 13, 1965. Hearing was held at 8:30 P.M. on the application of Myron Graffam, d/b/a Minute Man Stamps, for a certificate of appropriateness for the erection and display of signs on the building at 6 Muzzey Street, which is within the Battle Ureen District. The chairman read the notice of hearing and the letter of application and showed the commission members the scale drawings of the two signs to be used and the phptographs showing the placement of the signs. Mr. Graffam was present in his own behalf and answered questions asked by the commission members. The hearing was adjourned at 8:15 P.M. After discussion regarding the above application, it was agreed that the matter would be further discussed at the next meeting of the commission on Monday, December 13. In the meantime the commission members would check into the sign by-laws of the town, Hearing was held at 8:1.5 P.M. on the application of Trustees of the 1775 Realty Trust for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the demolition of the building located at 7 - 11 Depot Square, which is within the Battle Green District. The chairman r ead the letter of application. Present in behalf of the trustees of the 1775 Realty Trust was Mr. Frederick J. Conroy, Questions were asked Mr. Conroy by the members, and the hearing was adjoux*,d at 9:05 P. L. Mr. Conroy also presented the commission with a letter granting the extension of time in which the commission has to consider the original application for erection of a building at 1777 - 1793 Massachusetts Avenue. 4111 Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED to issue a Permit for Demolition to the Trustees of 1775 Realty Trust fort he demolition of the existing building at 7 - 11 Depot Square, which is within the Battle Green District.
