HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-11-17 411 November 17, 1965 The Historic Districts Commission met at the time and place specified in the public notice of the hearing on the application of Trustees of the 1775 Realty Trust for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the exterior architectural features of the proposed building to be erected at 1777 A 1793 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District. Present were Philip B. Parsons, Secretary, Wilbur M. Jaquith, George E. Graves, Ruth Bevan and Associate Commissioner Max H. Straw. The chairman being absent from the meeting, upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED that Wilbur M. Jaquith be elected Chairman Pro Tempore. The chairman read the notice of hearing. Present in behalf of Trustees of the 1775 Realty Trust were Charles H. Cole, Architect, and Frederick J. Conroy, acting as agent. Mr. Cole showed the commission a plot plan of the area and renderings of the Massachusettstvenue and Emery Park side of the proposed building. Many questions were asked Mr. Cole and Mr. Conroy by the commission members. The renderings were shown to those present at the hearing, and the chairman asked if any one present at the hearing wished to be heard. Mr. Robert Bittenbender, 85 Merles Street, stated that he did not believe that the commission should issue a certificate to the applicant until the elevation of the rear of the building can be viewed. No one else wishing to be heard, the hearing was adjourned at 9:15 P.M. The commission agreed that an adjourned meeting be held on the application of Trustees of 1775 Realty Trust on Wednesday, December 1, 1965, at 8:15 F.I . , at which time Mr. Cole would submit to the commission elevations of the foar sides of the proposed building, a plot plan and specifications covering the exterior dimensions and features of the building. Mr. Karl Nyren and Mrs. Elizabeth Clark appeared in behalf of the application of the Trustees of Cary Memorial Library, the hearing of which was held on November 10, 1965. They presented the commission with a drawing of the wall and fence to be used. Many questions were asked by the members and the hearing was adjourned at 10:25 P.M. Upon motion duly made ani seconded, it was VOTED to issue a certificate of appropriateness to the Trustees of Cary Memorial Library with respect to changes in the exterior architectural features of the library and the surrounding structures at 1874 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District.
