HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-02-03 February 3, 1965 The Historic Districts Commission met at the time and place specified in the Alltblic notice of the hearing on the application of L. D. Tarlin, Trustee, of hens Realty Trust, for certificates of appropriateness for the proposed building to be erected and proposed signs to be displayed on the premises which front on both Bedford Street and Worthen Road, which is within the Battle Green District. Present were Donald R. Grant, Chairman, Philip B. Parsons, Secretary, Wilbur M. Jaquith, George E. Craves and Associate Commissioner Carl E. Bryant. The chairman read the letter of application and the notice of hearing. He stated for those present that the commission had held previous meetings with the applicant although no agreements had been made. Also present at the hearing were John W. Silva, Manager, Planning a Engineering Department; Harold E. Fine, Vice President Engineering Department; David Sawyer; Mr. Crowley and other representatives of Stop & Shop Inc. Mr. Fine and Mr. Silva presented the commission with an elevation rendering in color showing they supermarket and stores, plot plan, scaled drawings, and a sample of the proposed brick and a sample of the shingles to be used in the supermarket building. Mr. Sawyer presented the commission with scale drawings of the proposed signs to be erected in connection with the building. The commission members asked the Stop & Shop representatives many questions regarding the plans. Many abuttors were present at the hearing, and they were given an opportunity to view the plans and drawings. There was no opposition to the application. The hearing was adjourned at 9:10 P. M. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED to issue a certificate of appropriateness to L. D. Tarlin, Trustee of Athens Realty Trust, with respect to the erection of a supermarket building and certain signs on the premises which face on both Bedford Street and Worthen Road, which is within the Battle Green District. Hearing was held at 9:10 P. M. on the application of Mark Moore, Jr., Trustee of Moore Realty Trust, for changes in the exterior architectural features in the dwelling to be erected at 44 Hancock Street, formerly 42 Hancock street, which is within the Hancock-Clarke District. The chairman read the letter of application and the notice of hearing. He stated for those present at the hearing the background of the application and stated that the original certificate of appropriateness had been issued June 16, 1964. Mr. Moore appeared in his own behalf and presented the commission w ith a set of scale drawingsanda color sample of the paint to be used on the exterior of the dwelling. Many questions were asked by the commission members and by those present at the hearing. There was no opposition to the application. The hearing was adjourned at 9:50 P. M. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED to issue a certificate of appropriateness to Mark Moore, or., Trustee of Moore Realty Trust with respect to changes in the exterior architectural features of the single family dwelling with two-car garage which was approved by the commission on June 15, 1964, on the premises now known as Illi Hancock Street, but formerly known as 42 `'ancock Street, which is within Aimthe Hancock-Clarke District.
