The Historic Districts Commission met at the time and place specified
in t ba public notice of the hearing on the application of Niles Company, Inc.,
for a certificate of appropriateness with respect to the erection and
display of a sign on the premises on Worthen Road, which is within the Battle
Green District.
Present were Donald R. Grant, Chairman, Philip B. Parsons, Secretary,
Ruth Bevan, George E. Graves and Wilbur M. Jaquith.
The chairman read the notice of hearing. Mr. Paul W. Boyd and Mr.
Charles H. Cole, Architect, appeared in behalf of the application and
submitted a scale drawing of the temporary sign to be erected on the premises.
Various questions were a sked by the members of the commission.
Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED to issue a certificate
of appropriat eness to Niles Company Inc., with respect to the erection and
display of a temporary sign to be constructed by the applicant in front of
the apartment dwelling units now being constructed by it on the premises owned
by it on Worthen Road, which is within the Battle Green District.
Hearing was held on the application of Parish of the Church of Our
Redeemer for a certificate of appropriateness with respect to the erection
of an addition to the existing building on the corner of Meriam Street and
Patriots Drive, which is within the Battle Green District.
The ohairmanread the notice of hearing. Mr. Robert A. Bittenbender,
Chairman of the Building Committee and Mr. Edward M. Bridge, Architect,
appeared in behalf of the application and presented the commission with three
sets of scale drawings showing the four elevations. Questions were asked by
members of the commission.
Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED to issue a certificate
of appropriateness to The Church of Our Redeemer with respect to the erection
of an addition to the existing church building on the northwesterly side of
Meriam Street, which is within the Battle Green District.

The words "Battle tarsen Apartments" are to he in Ramon letters approximately
six inches high of the type appearing at the top of the aforsaentioned drawing.
The words 'Renting For Fall Occupancy Ons ands* Bedroom Units* are to be in
Roman letters approximately three inches high of the type appearing oaths bottom
of the aforementioned drawing. The words "NUNS" and "Realtors" ars to b e of the
style of lettering aiopeering oaths card submitted at the aforementioned hearing,
and the telephone number is to he in the arabic numerals of the type appearing
on the aforementioned droning. The above legend may appear on both sides of
the sign.
