HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-10-25 October 25, 1961 The Historic Districts Commission met at the time and place specified in the public notice of hearing on the application of Erwin R. Brilliant fcr a certificate of appropriateness for the erection of signs on the premises at 9 Muzzey Street, which is within the Battle Green • District. P resent were Donald R. Grant, Chairian, Philip B . Parsons, Secretary, Donald E. Legro and Cyrus wood and Associate Commissioner Charles A. Cole. Appearing in his own behalf was Erwin R. Brilliant. The chairman read the letter of application. Various questions were asked tie applicant by members of the commission. Dr. Brilliant stated that he would be willing to withdraw his request fcr a third sign if that seemed feasible. The hearing was adjourned at 8:20 P. M. On motion made and duly seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to grant to Erwin R. Brilliant a certificate of appropriateness for the erection and display of two signs on the front of the building at 9 Muzzey Street. Hearing was held at 8: 20 P. M. on the application cT Depositors Trust Company for a certificate of appropriateness for the erection of signs and changes in the exterior architectural features on the banking premises at Depot Square, which is within the Battle Green District. Appearing in behalf' of the application was Mr . Donald F. i^unro, Assistant Treasurer and Manager, Depositors Trust Company. The chaiaman read the letter of applicPtion and showed drawings submitted with the application. Mr. Munro also pointed out the proposed changes on the architect plans. Questions were asked by various members of the commission. On motion made and duly seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to grant to Depositors Trust Company a certificate of appropriateness fcr changes in the exterior architectural features of the bank building and with respect to new signs to be displayed on said building in Depot Square. Discussion was held at 8:40 P. M. on the application of Kenneth M. Smith with regard to the painting of the building at 10 Rear Muzzey Street. Questions were asked Mr. Smith by members of the commission. £he chairman read the letter of application received from Mr. Smith and Custance Brothers. On motion made and duly seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to grant to Kenneth M. Smith a certificate of appropriateness with respect to a changes of one of the colors on the exterior of the building at 10 near Muzzey Street, which is within the Battle Green District. Discussion was held with Arthur T. Bernier, d/b/a Tiny To—ne Inc. , who presented the commission with a scale drawing of the proposed sign to be erected Ft 1551 Massachusetts Avenue. Various questions were asked Mr. Bernier by the members of the commission. 111 DC+ 2.5,11 1 • On motion made and duiy seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to grant to William G. Bernier and Arthur T. Bernier, d/b/a Tiny Towne Inc., a certificate of appropriateness with respect to the erection and display of a sign on the premises at 1851 Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District. At the suggestion oii various me_,.bers of the commission, the chairman agreed that with the actual certificate of appropriateness he would send a lett r to the applicant st, ting that the commission would be pleased if the letters in the sign were to be thinner or less heavy. The chairl._an announced that he had _ eceived a call fr:m Lillian Viano 'pith regard to a directory in the back of the building near the theatre. A letter of application will follow. The chairman stated that nearing on the applications of ii. A . Anderson, D. R. Ross, and ttichard L. Wright have been scheduled for Wednesday, November i5, 1961, in the Town Accountant' s Office.
