HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-06-30• • June 30, 1960 The Historic Districts Commission met at the time and place specified in the public notice of the hearing on the application of Frederic R. Childs on behalf of Godfrey, Hamilton, Magnus & Co., Incorporated, for a certificate of appropriateness for the erection and display of a sign on the premises at 27 Depot Square, which is within the Battle Ureen District. Present were Donald R. Grant, Chairman, philip b. Parsons, secretary, Edwin B. Worthen, Jr., Donald E. Legro, and Cyrus Wood. The chairman read the letter of application received from Godfrey, hamilton, Magnus & Co., Incorporated, and the published notice. Mr. Frederic R. Childs, appeared in favor of the application in behalf of Godfrey, Hamilton, Magnus & Co., Incorporated. A note was received from John r'. MacNeil in favor of the granting of the application. The applicant presented a sketch (numbered 2) prepared by Newton - Norman Co., showing the sized and proportions of the particular letters as well as the two choices of colors. Questions were asked of the applicant by various members of the commission. The hearing was adjourned at 8 :15 P. M. On motion made and duly seconded, it was unanimously voted to grant to uodfrey, riamilton, Magnus & Co., Incorporated, a certificate of appropriateness for the erection and display of a sign on the premises at 27 Depot Square, which is within the battle Green District, said sign is to be as appears on sketch numbered 2, prepared by Newton - Norman Co., submitted by the applicant at the hearing; the sizes and proportions of the particular letters are to be as shown on said sketch; the color of the letters is to be the shade of gray which is marked "lst" choice on the sketch; and the background of the sign is to be the existing color of off -white or cream presently appearing on the signboard over the window and doorway of the location. Mr. Robert L. blanchard appeared before the commission at approximately 8 :15 P. M. with revised plans of his proposed dwelling at 1310 Massachusetts Avenue. At this time Mr. Arnold E. Howard sat on the commission in place of Donald R. Grant, Mr. Howard having sat at the first hearing. Donald E. Legro acted as Chairman Pro lempore. Questions were asked by various members of the commission. On motion made and duly seconded, it was unanimously voted to rescind the vote of the commission to deny the application of Robert L. Blanchard for a certificate of appropriateness to erect a dwelling at 1310 Mass. Arenue. On further motion made and duly seconded, it was unanimously voted to grant a certificate of appropriateness to Robert L. Blanchard to erect a dwelling a 1310 Massachusetts Avenue in accordance with the elevations submitted on June 1, 1960, as modified by the drawings submitted to the meeting of June 30, 1960.
