HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959-03-18 4111/ Mai 18, 1959 The Historic Districts Commission held a public hearing Wednesday, March 18, 1959 in the Selectmen's Room, Town Office • Building at 7050 P.M. on the application of Bill Owners Mutual Insurance Co. fora certificate for the erection of signs on the office at 20 Depot Square, which is within the Battle green District. Sitting on the Commission were Dexter A.Swith, Chairman, Philip B.Parsora, Floyd J.Taylor, Charles d.Davis and Edwin B. Worthen, Jr. , Present was Hr. Davidson from the insurance company. Br,Smith read the notice. Mr.Davidson said he was unaware he had to come before the Commission in order to put up these signs. One sign is on the coluenat the reiar of the Liberty building, facing Depot Square. The other ie over the entrance to the office at the foot of the stairs. These are wooden signs affixed by screws. Mr. Davidson was not sure of the measurements nor the colors of the signs and was to shook this bask with the Clerk of the • Commission, so that the Certificate could be properly made out, AoBr.Davidson called and the sign on the column is 16' x 56 and 0 `L the one over the door is 24' x 5e. Minikingx Hearing adjourned at 800 P.B. • • April 7 , 1959 The Historic bistricts Commission held a public hearing Tuesday, April 7, 1959 at 7:30 P.M. in the First Floor Conference Room, Cary Memorial Building on the application of Leeland Realty for a certificate for changes in exterior architectural features and • the erection oCa sign on the double door store at 25 Depot Square (formerly occuppied by Thomas Montague)Lexington,Mass. ) which is within the Battle Green District. Sitting on the Commission were Dexter A.Smith, Uhairmanl Charles G.Davis,Edwin B.Worthen,Jr. , Philip B.Parsons and Floyd J.Taylor. Present was Mr.Burgess from Leeland Realty. Mr.Smith read the notice. Mr.Burgess submitted a sketch prepared by Newton Norman Co. showing the sign. This sign is wood, 16' wide, 3' high to be painted cream with maroon lettering, reading "Leeland Realty" in script lettering of the same exact style as the sign previously approved which is now over the store adjacent to these premises. They also wish to have the number "25" painted in maroon over the doors. The wood trim on the entire front of the store is also to be painted cream. It was suggested to Mr.Burgess that they might also consider the possibility of the doors only being painted maroon to match the sign lettering, to provide a contrast. The sign reading "Leeland Realty" at their former location to be removed with the proviso that the entire background wood be repainted cream. MEETING: After a short discussion, i4 was voted: VOTE: it was unanimously voted to issue a certificate of appropriateness to Leeland Realty for changes in exterior architectural features and erection of a sign on the double door store at 25 Depot Sq. Lexington,Mass. ( store formerly occuppied by Thomas Montac-ue) and the Chairman was directed to sign the Certificate of Appropriateness as prepared. NANTUCKET COMMISSION A letter and repott from the Historic Districts Commission at Nantucket was passed around and also the Secretary' s reply to Mr.Nelson, Chairman at Nantucket. MINUTE MAN CAB- Mr. mith reported briefly on a conversation with Mr.Cole regarding this application and this will be taken up later. Meeting adjourned at 8:30 P.M. Philip B.Parsons,Secretary
