Mr. Hutchinson the Town Manager was also present for discussions with the Board of various matters. There was a brief discussion of possible problems that might arise from the conversion of existing apartments to condominiums as has occurred in Brookline. The question was raised as to whether the Town should act to CONDO CONVER- preserve existing rental units. It appears that there is no existing SION mechanism to prevent conversions at this time. The inadequacy of Planning Board office space was discussed with the OFFICE SPACE Town Manager. Dr. Friedman pointed out that some members of the Board spend considerable time in the office working on plans and do not have adequate space to do so. Mr. Hutchinson replied that the Town offices are for the day to day administration of Town business, not for dedicated office space for elected oficials. The corner office will be made avail- able for Board members however when they need desk space while in the office. Mrs. Nichols pointed out that there is no longer space to hang plans for inspection by the public. Mr. Hutchinson agreed to make the wall space in the corridor available for Planning Board plans and to move the coat rack elsewhere. Mr. Hutchinson also pointed out that the Planning Board office is now covered full time whereas it was often uncovered under the old office layout. I Problems that have occurred with the Board of Appeals were discussed with the Town Manager. At 8:15 p.m. a motion was made to go into Executive Session to discuss EXEC. SESSION matters concerning the reputation of an individual. It was pointed out that the individual was informed of the meeting and declined the opportun- ity to attend. The motion carried with Friedman, Sandy, Wheaton and Nichols voting yes and Zabin absent. The chairman stated that the Board would not return to open session. Mr. Hutchinson informed the Board that the Planning Director has scheduled several interviews for a new position and he hopes that he will have a new job within 30 days. However, because of the outstanding litigation in the.McSweeney case, he can not agree to dismiss the Planning Director if he has not found a new position by that time. The Board will meet again with the Town Manager in one to one and a half months on this subject if the matter has not been resolved. In response to a question from Mrs. Wheaton, Mr. Hutchinson replied that he expected it would take three months to obtain a replacement after the Planning Director resigns. The meeting adjourned at 9:10 p.m. X" /` Frank Sandy, C1 k 1 F'
