PLANNING BOARD MEETING
May 9, 1979
The meeting of the Lexington Planning Board was called to order at 7:05 p.m.
by the chairman Mr. Zabin, with members Sandy, Nichols, Wheaton, Friedman,
planning director Briggs and administrative clerk Mrs. Snow present. Also
in attendance were Selectmen Mary Miley, James Crain, Robert Kent, Alfred
Busa, and Lexington Housing Authority Chairman Mary Shunney.
Peter Conant, Urban Design Team, and his attorney, Mr. Tuckmann, met with ARTICLE 61
the Board for clarification and discussion of his proposal for the con- PARKER SCHOOL
version of the Parker School, and changes made to the original plans
since the April 11 public information meeting on revisions. Article 61,
defeated on May 7, will probably be reconsidered at tonight's Town Meeting
and Mr. Conant sought Planning Board support. An addendum to his brochure
was distributed. Technical description of the addition to the 3rd floor
as one, or one and one half stories, was discussed . Mr. Conant reported
that landscape plans were submitted to the Town Clerk earlier in the day,
and that the parking area had been redesigned to eliminate encroachment on
abutting property. Regarding the discrepancies on the placement of windows
on the exterior and floor plans, Mr. Conant explained his need for flexi-
bility on such details at this point, but stated that no new windows will
be installed in the existing structure. He explained that the change in
outline of the building was considered to be an improvement in the design.
The members were polled as to their position on Article 61, and a majority
expressed support. Mrs. Wheaton withdrew her support, Dr. Sandy would
vote in favor if the upper level were removed, but may abstain, Mrs. Nichols,
Dr. Friedman, and Mr. Zabin will vote in the affirmative.
The meeting adjourned at 7:55p.m
Iris G. Wheaton, Clerk
