May 7, 1973
The meeting of the Lexington Planning Board was called to order at 7:34 p.m.
the the chairman Mrs. Brown with members Graham, Costello, S. Brown, planning
director Briggs and secretary Mrs. Snow present. Also in attendance were
F. Sandy, CLC, and L. Notkin, DAC.
The minutes of Planning Board meeting of April 17, 1973, were approved as MINUTES 4/17/73
amended.
A memorandum from the Town Manager, dated April 30, 1973, regarding a COMMUNITY
meeting of representatives of Town agencies for discussion of "community DEVELOPMENT MTG
improvement" and development and implementation of long range plans for
Lexington, was noted. Mr. Graham and Mrs. Brown plan to attend.
Copy of a letter dated May 2, 1973, from the Chairman of the Appeals BoardLEXINGTON PRESS
to Mr. Wilbur R. Fletcher regarding future use of Lexington Press propertyLAND USE
on Oakland St. was noted. No action by the Board was deemed necessary.
Draft of a letter by Mr. Briggs with Planning Board recommendations on LEX. INV. &
the plan of Lexington Investment & Development Corp. (subject of F&D B/A DEV. CORP.F&D
hearing on May 9, 1973) was reviewed. Drainage problem as cited by the
Town Engineer (letter dated May 3, 1973), and parking stall and aisle
dimensions as shown, were discussed. The Board voted to urge disapproval
of the peitition, and approved the letter as to content, subject to revisions
by Mrs. Brown as to its form.
The meeting adjourned at 8 p.m. for the holding of a public hearing on COLUMBUS ST
the Columbus St. subdivision. SUBD. PUBLIC
HEARING
The meeting resumed at 9:15 p.m.
The Board reviewed a draft by Mrs. Brown of a letter to Mr. Callaghan, CUL DE SAC
Town Counsel, regarding permitted length of dead-end streets, specific- LENGTH
ally concerning Wellington Lane Ave, and proposed street shown in WILLOW RIDGE
Willow Ridge subdivision plans. A letter from the developer's attorney,
Thomas W. Callahan, dated May 2, 1973, was noted. Following discussion
of content of Mrs. Brown's draft, it was agreed that Mr. Briggs and
Mrs. Brown will confer with the Town Counsel, Mr. Cohen, on the matter.
Mr. Costello reported on unsuccessful search in 1967-68 Planning Board
minutes for evidence of vote of the Planning Board with respect to legal STREET STATUS
status of streets shown on the Zoning Map. Furhter research will be ZONING MAP
undertaken to determine legal status of streets as they appear on the map.

Notice of Finding & Determination hearing, Harvey R & D Electronics, HARVEY R&D
to be held on May 22, was reviewed. Mr. Briggs will prepare a draft.of F&D HEARING
recommendations for Planning Board consideration, following site review
and receipt of comments from the Engineering and Health departments.
Announcements of public meetings in several communities to be held by the GREATER BOSTON
Aeronautics Commission re "An Airport System for the Greater Boston AIRPORT SYSTEM
Metropolitan Area" was noted. Mrs. Brown hopes to attend the meeting to
be held in Concord on May 17.
Announcement of a symposium of Bicentennial Logistics to be held in Boston BICENTENNIAL
on May 17, sponsored by S.O.L.E., was noted. The Board voted to recommendLOGISTICS
authorization by Mr. O'Connell of Mr. Briggs' attendance at the meeting.
Mr. Graham informed the Board of Cambridge/Arlington/Somerville positions RED LINE
regarding extension of the Red Line through Lexington and suggested that EXTENSION
transportation be included in the 1973 work program of the Planning Board.
Mr. S. Brown will attend the Red Line extension investigating committee
meeting on May 16.
A copy of a letter from the Arlington Board of Selectmen to the Lexington ARLINGTON
Selectmen dated 5/2/73, regarding the recent rezoning to Wetland District WETLAND ZONING
of the Great Meadow was noted.
