On Wednesdav, May 3, 1961 at 7:45 p.m, the
Lexington Planning Board held an informal meeting
in the Selectmen's Room, T,)wn office Building, with M 1 DISTRICT
representatives and/or owners of the larger parcels
of land fronting on or adjacent to Hartwell Avenue
and located in Lexi.nRton's Light Industrial District..
Present were Chairman Soule, i-iessrs. Bryson, Grindle,
and Meyer of the Planning Board, Mr. Adams of the
Board of Selectmen, and the Planning Director. Also
nresent were Attorneys Norman T. May and Stephen T.
Russian rerresenting Joseph Prestejohn of Arlington
and William F. Maloney of Lexington; Messra. Daniel
G. Wheeler and Paul P. Shepherd of Cabot, Cabot &
Forbes of Boston; Mr. C. T. Morris of the Itek Cor-
poration; and Messrs. ',di-lbur C. Nvlander of Belmont
and Alfred P. Troneano of Lexington.
Mr. Soule opened the meeting by stating that
it was the planning Board's intention during the
coming summer months to rrepare a long-range plan
and accompanying zonintT. rroposal for the development
of the area bounded by route 128 and the Bedford
Town _line between Bedford Street and a line north-
easterly and easterly of Bates Poad and :Patriots
Forest residential areas. He said it was the inten-
tion. of the Planning Board to nresent the results
of its studies and recommendations for action at a
fall town meeting. He then discussed matters which
the planning Board had been considering, these
being the use of different size lots and set -back
requirements in different sections of the area; the
rossibility of relocating a portion of the Boston
Edison Comrany's transmission line easement to make
some land alen7 Hartwell Avenue more usable; deter-
mining just what land along said avenue and Wood
Street the Air Force were interested in taking for
expansion of Hanscom Field_ facilities; the proposed
taking; of Meagherville for a sanitary fill area and
of access thereto; the elimination of Hinchey Road;
t -he abandonment of a rorti_on of Westvipw Street and
the possible exnansion of 'nlestview Cemeterlr. These
matters were all discussed in detail. The rlan of
the recommended location of a portion of the Edison
easement was liven to Mr. Morris for study by Ttelf.
Mr. Wheeler stated that if there was a concerted
program by the Planning Board that Cabot, Cabot &
Forbes would be w-*llinf to abide by its agreement
until September not to corstruct any buildings on

the land which that firm controlled. Mr. Morris suggested
that each nronerty owner enter into a similar rwouldcnote
agreement wherein each property owner invo_
build upon his land until the Planning Board had completed
Its stud9 and mage its proposal to the Town Meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 8:15 n.m.
