PLAYNTNG BOARD MEETING

A regular meeting of the Lexington Planning
Board was held on Mondas2 4, 1961 at 7:30
p.m, in the Board's o"fice, Town Office Building.
Present were Chairman Soule, members Brvson, 'Trindle,
Mabee, and Me,rer, and planning Director Snow.
The Board arnroved the minutes of its Anril
17, 1961 meeting.
The Board anrroved "or r>a-v-ment a bill for
1.7C for drafting sunrlies from the Wallace B.
Mitchell Co.
Considered next were the following Form A

Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was
unanimously
VOTED: that the Lexi.nnton planning Board determines
that the plan accompanying Form A anplica-
tion #61-16 does not require annroval under
the Subdivision Control Law, and that said
plan be so endorsed.
It was decided to withhold action on appli-
cation #61-17 rending the drafting on the plan the
existin.- building or buildings on the nronosed lots.
The attention of the Board was called to a
notice of a hearing to be helc' on Tuesday, Apri.l 25
by the Historic Districts Commission. it was de-
cided to take no action in regnrd to the application
for a certificate of anprorriateness to be considered
at said renri_ng.

The Board next took under consideration a

action regarding his a?aplication for annroval of the

PEALTY TRUST plan. Upon motion duly made and seconded it was
unanimously
The attention of the Board was called to a
MFTROPOLTTAN letter, Dated April 21, 1961, .from Harrison Chadwick,
PLANNiTNG member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives,
LFGTSLATTON to Mr. Williams of the Unitarian La7rmen's League in
regard to the resolution gassed under article 81 of
the 1961 annual town meeting endorsing metropolitan
planning legislation. (See addendum.

VOTED: that pursuant to the written request from the

tion and the Middleby Road elementary school and the

nroposed general development plan wrhich 1nad been ore -
pared for the central school and recreational area.
It was decided to meet with the Standing School
Building Committee for the purpose of obtaining in-
formation in regard to the work being done under their
direction and for the rurnose of correlating their
work with overall planning for the town. The Board
approved the draft of a letter to the chairman of said
committee .requesting* a meeting for the consideration
of this matter. (See addendum.)

Ilands. Mr. Snow was asked to prepare for the Board's
consideration a preliminary outline for such a devel-
opment.
From 9:50 until 10:05 p.m. Mr. Stevens met
w*th. the Board to discuss with it several matters
currently under consideration.
Considered next was the application of
Messrs. McCormack and Brun for arrroval of the MUNFOE
Munroe Estates nrelimi.nary subdivision plan. There- ESTATES
after, upon motion beinn duly made and seconded, it
was unanimously McCORMACK
& BRUN
VOTED: that the preliminary subdivision plan entitled
"Preliminary Plan of Lots at Munroe Estates
in Lexington -Mass.", dated Feb. 17, 1961,
which was submitted to the Board by Messrs.
McCormack and 7run, accompanied by an appli-
cation for anproval of-reliminary plan, Form
B, dated February 27, 1961, be and hereby is
approved subject to the following; conditions:
(1) a sani_tary sewer be. in^talled in the en-
tire si1bdivision, (2) the brook which is not
shown be Dined through the subdivision and
(3) the -2 ft, reserve strip" be eliminated.

Gentlemen:
Before nrelimi.nary plans for the High School addition
and the Middleby Foad elementary school have developed
too far the Planning; Board would like to discuss with

the Standing School Building Comm ttee these plans.
The Board is narticularly interested in the relation-
ship between the proposed school sites and adjacent
lands to be used for pla,rground and recreational pur-
poses, the circulation pattern eor both pedestrian and
vehicular traffic, and any need there may be for addi-
tional land for school and playground purposes. The
Board would be glad to meet with the Committee or any
of its representatives at the Board's regular meetings
on May 1 or 15, or on some other day ,you might suggest.

T very much appreciated the cony of the Warrant of
the Lexinvton Town Meetina, that you sent me under date
of February 26th. Needless to sav, T was especiall-r con-
cerned with Article 81 having to do with the endorsement
of Metronolitan Planning by the Lexington Town Meeting.
I do not hannen to have heard what action the Town
Meeting 'took with respect to his Article. Tf you have a
moment to snare, would ,you kindly let me know the dispo-
sition that was made of it.
For your information, I might say that the Committee
on Metropolitan Affairs has reported favorably House Bill
1634 which I introduced on this subject. It is currently
before the House Committee on Ways and Means. Tf Lexing-
ton desires to take any further action along; these lines,
it might be well to send a communication, or copy of.a
nrevious communication, to the Chairman of the House I -lays
and Means Committee. His name Is Representative John
Toomey.
