Lexington Planning Board Report on the Amend-
ment to the Zoning By-law Proposed by Article 48.
On March 9, 1961 at 7:30 p.m., the Planning Board
' held a public hearing on the proposal to amend the Lex-
ington Zoning BzT-law set forth in Article 48 of the
Warrant for the Annual Town Meeting on March 20, 1961.

Nine persons attended the hearing due notice of which was '
given according to law. At the close of the hearing no
one present registered an opinion either for or against the
amendment as presented.
This proposal represents a request by the Board of
Appeals for a technical change in the zoning by-law. Under
Section 14 of said by-law the Selectmen formerly appointed
four associate members of the Board of Appeals to take the
place of any regular members who in the case of vacancies,
Interests., etc. were unable to act. At the 1960 Annual
Town Meeting it was voted to increase the number of asso-
ciate members of the Board to five when it was found that
It was not possible on several occasions during vacation
times to assemble a combination of five members and asso-
ciate members of the Board to act upon various matters. It
was thought that this situation could be corrected by having
available just one more associate member to call upon. How-
ever, during the bast ,year it has been found that the avail-
ability of one additional associate member has not solved
completely the problem in regard to assembling on certain
occasions the number of members necessary to act. The pro-
posed amendment would change the number of associate members
from five to six.
Members of the Planning Board unanimously recommend the '
adoption of the amendment under Article 48.

a public hearing on the proposal to amend the Lexington
Zoning By-law set forth in Article 49 of the Warrant for
the Annual Town Meeting on March 20, 1961. Fifteen persons
attended the hearing due notice of which was given according
to law. At the close of the hearing no one present regis-
tered an opinion either for or against the amendment as
presented.
This proposed amendment would rezone to single family '

definitive subdivision plan approved by the Planning
Board and recorded in the Registry of Deeds. All land
northerly of said road is now lotted for residential
use. Land situated southerly of Worthen Road and
zoned for garden apartment and hotel district use
would continue to be used for this Purpose. Thus
Worthen Road would serve as the boundary line between
single family residence on the northerly side of the
road and the proposed garden apartment buildings on
the south.
Members of the Planning Board unanimously recom-
mend the adoption of the amendment under Article 49.
