HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-05-02PLANNING BOARD MELTING I May 21 1960 A regular meeting of the Lexington Planning Board was held on Monday, May 2, 1960 at 7:35 p.m. in the Planning Board's office, Town Office Build- ing. Present were Chairman Burnell, Members Grindle, Mabee and Meyer, and Planning Director Snow. From 8:30 to 9:15 n.m. Town Counsel Stevens met with the Board to discuss various matters it had under consideration. The Board approved the minutes of its April MINUTES 11, 18, and 20, 1960 meetings. Apnroved also were the following bills which had been *resented for nayment: Louise M. Baker. BILLS extra secretarial service --X5.00; The Dunton Corp., 4 -drawer letter file -$84.00; Fxchange Bibliogra- phies, subscription--t�8.00. Considered next was the following Form A application for determination of Planning Board FORM A jurisdiction: ' #60-29, submitted May 2, 1960 by William H. Hamilton; plan entitled "Plan of' Land in Lexington, Mass.", scale: 1" = 30', dated April 13, 1960, Miller & Nylander, C.E.'s & Surveyors. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously VOTED: that the Lexington Planning Board determines that the plan accompanying Form A application #60-29 does not require approval under the Subdivision Control Law, and that said plan be so endorsed. With reference to the Board of Appeals letter of April 2q, 1960 (see minutes of April 29, 1960 MAPLE ST. Planning Board meeting), abnroved was the draft of GARDEN a letter to the Board of Appeals acknowledging the APARTMENT withdrawal of the Ippolito and Longo petition with DISTRICT reference to the Ma.nle Street garden apartment dis- trict site and building plans and returning said plans. (See addendum.) The attention of the Board was called to a cony of the Town Counsel's letter of April 29, 1960 to the Town Clerk in regard to the covenant of in- 5-2-6o -2- 1 i 1 Aamnity of the trustees of the Waymint Realty GLEN Trust with reference to the Glen ''states subdivi- ESTATES Sion, said instrument, dated April 27, 1960, ob- ligating said trustees to indemnify and save the AVADANIAN Town harmless from damages at cetera for taking _ easements for town ways in the rounded corners of WAYMINT Marshall and Rolfe Roads where they intersect REALTY Woburn Street. Tt was especially noted that the TRUST indemnity obligations were conditioned upon the Town establishing Marshall and Rolfe Roads as town ways within two vears after the completion of all of the work required to be completed by the sub- divider in said subdivision. (See addendum.) Considered next were the petitions to be BOARD OF heard by the Board of Appeals on May 24, 1960. It APPEALS was decided to take no action on said petitions with the exception of those of C. Henry Jackson and Messrs. Ippolito and Longo. Mr. Snow was asked to obtain further information in regard to the two netitions named for consideration by the Board. The attention of the Board was also called WALTHAM ST. to a letter from the Board of Anneals, said letter GARDEN beim; dated April 291 1960 and accompanying a APART sr?T photostat of a sketch site plan for the 'daltham DTSTRTCT Street garden apartment district.' After discussing - the letter and plan with the Town Counsel, Mr. Snow VINE BROOK was asked to return the letter and plan to the REALTY Board of Anneals and to inquire what the petitioner TRUST was asking and if the plan was an additional one to those previously submitted (see minutes of April 29, 1960 Planning Board Meeting), or was being submitted in lieu of others. There was distributed to each member of the NATIONAL Board a cony of an excerpt from the minutes of the GUARD Board of Selectmen meeting•.. of April 26, 1960 said APMORY excerpt oertaining to the rrorosal representatives PROPOSAL of the Massachusetts 'dational Guard presented to locate an armory in Lexington. The Planning Board then gave consideration to the Selectmen's request for a recommendation in regard to said proposal. It was decided to give an oral r enort in regard to the matter and to include i.n the report the follow- ing points: the Planning Board was not in favor of locating an armory in Lexin"ton, believed there was no particular advantage to the Town in locating an armory therein, knew of no tract of Town -Owned land of sufficient size and within one-half mile distance of Route 128,and did not believe the Town should appropriate funds and acquire land for an armory In a residential district. -2- 1 i 1 -2-60 There being no further business to trans- act, the meet_ng adjourned at 10:10 n.m. Later in the evening; Mr. Snow met with the Selectmen and discussed with them the Planning Boards views in regard to the National Guard armory. . Irvin? F?.
