October 29, 1957
A regular meeting of the Planning Board was
held in the Town Engineer's Room, Town Office Building,
on Tuesday, October 29, 1957 at 7:40 p.m. Present were
Chairman Grindle, Members Burnell, Jaquith and Soule
and Planning Director Snow. Town Counsel Stevens was
present until 8:00 p.m.
All matters appearing to be in order, the Board HANCOCK
endorsed the "Hancock Heights Section Two" definitive HEIGHTS
subdivision plan, and also signed a "Certificate in SEC. 2
Reference to Modification and Amendment of Prior
Approval of Hancock Heights Subdivision. A set of
Prints on cloth of said plan and the certificate of
modification were given to Mr. Stevens for recording
in the Middlesex South District Registry of Deeds.
Mr. Stevens left the meeting at 8:00 p.m. at MINUTES
which time the Board considered and approved the draft
of the minutes of the October 22, 1957 meeting.

Concerning the plans accompanying applications
#57-94 to #57-96 inclusive, the Board decided' to with-
hold action on said plans pending further submission
of data. Thereupon, it was moved, seconded and
unanimously
VOTED: that the plans accompanying applications
#57-97 and #57-9$ be signed bearing the
endorsement, "Lexington Planning Board
approval under Subdivision Control Law not
required. "
MASTER Mr. Snow stated that he was preparing in written
PLAN form various sections of the long-range development
plan to accompany those recommendations which had been
prepared to date. He asked the Board to give consid-
eration to the objectives it had in mind in proposing
that the Town provide funds for technical assistance
in preparing said plan and at a later date inform him
of these objectives, particularly in regard to the
time of town it was desired that Lexington should be.
He said that this information should be translated into
a proposed land- use plan, showing how much land and
where it was expected eventually to propose for various
types of residential, commercial and industrial devel-
opment.
PROPOSED ROAD- Mr. Snow next discussed with the Board informa-
WOOD TO tion he had obtained from Mr. Patts of the Mass. Dept.
BEDFORD STS . of Public Works Right-of-Way Division in regard to
accessibility of land along the proposed road between
Wood to Bedford Streets. Mr. Snow also reviewed with
the Board its understanding that the road would be of
limited access as set forth in Mr.Snow's February 251
1957 letter to Mr. Whitcomb of said Department of
Public Works and Chief Engineer Gray's reply of Febru-
ary 27, 1957. No action was taken in regard to the
matter.
ROUTE 2. The Board next examined topographical data and
RE-DESIGN studies which had been obtained in regard to proposals
for the Watertown Street-Route 2 and Spring Street-
Route 2 interchanges. After a discussion of this in-
formation Mr. Snow was asked to prepare studies of
said Spring Street intersection to see if some scheme
could be devised to handle the amount of automobile
traffic which might be generated by a regional shop-
ping center project proposed for the Swenson-Hayden
properties . It was agreed to meet on Friday evening
to discuss these studies prior to meeting for the
same purpose with the Board of Selectmen the follow-
ing morning.
The Board next considered the proposal of Avery AVERY &
and Saul to locate its plant on the Westlex Corporation SAUL
property in the district now zoned for light industry
and the possibility of re-zoning said land for heavy HEAVY
industry. In regard to said proposal it was decided INDUSTRY
that the Board should investigate the costs of laying
a water main in the proposed Wood-to-Bedford -Street road a
and also laying a trunk line sewer from said Westlex
Corporation land to the nearest main located on Route
12$.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:45 p.m.
