GREEN
VALLEY
SEC. II
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss in de- REGIONAL
tail a previous conference that Messrs. Jaquith and SHOPPING
Stevens had held with representatives of Filenets in CENTER
regard to the draft of a zoning amendment for the pro-
posed regional shopping center in Lexington.
Discussed in detail were the major points of
' difference between recommendations made by representa-
tives of the town and of Filenets. Discussed also
were some of the implications thought to be pertinent
in regard to the rezoning proposal.
Mr. Grindle stated that that morning Mr. Wheeler
of Cabot, Cabot & Forbes had telephoned him to say a
good word for the Filene's proposal and to state that
while there were no definite plans for the Richards
property which representatives of Cabot, Cabot & Forbes
now owned, said firm was looking for an organization
similar to Arthur D. Little Inc. of Cambridge who would
be interested in constructing a research laboratory on
the Richards site. Mr. Wheeler further stated that if
such an organization could be found that Cabot, Cabot &
Forbes planned to petition for a re -zoning of the Richards
land for the use of such a laboratory.
It was also stated at the meeting that Mr. Cowles
was trying to obtain options for his land on Spring
Street for some sort of commercial use. Mr. Snow stated
that a Mr. Roberts of the St. Paul Construction Co. tele-
phoned him stating that the company owned land on both
sides of Route 128 between Route 2 and the Waltham line
' and that said company would be glad to give the land on
the reservoir side of Route 128 to the town for use in
connection with a recommended regional recreation area if
the town would re -zone the company's land on the easterly
side of Route 128 for some sort of commercial use. '
Mr. Soule left the meeting at 9:00 p.m., Mr. Stevens
at 10:00 p.m. at which time Messrs. Gummere and Brown met
with the Boards to further discuss the draft of a re -zoning
proposal and some of the Filene's plan for a development of
the Swenson, Hayden, and adjacent properties.
The meeting adjourned at 11:00 o'clock.
