ENABLING notices in regard to public hearings to be held by the

planning boards. Mr. Snow was authorized to obtain
copies of said bills, to attend the public hearings on
said bills and to prepare a memorandum stating the
Planning Board's decision in regard to the proposed
legislation) said letter to be addressed to Mr. Maloney
as a member of said committee.
STREET Read to the Board was the Selectmen's February 17
ACCEPTANCES letter in regard to street acceptances. The Board '
decided that the entire length of Allen Street should
be accepted in view of the plans seen at the public
hearing for the proposed widening and realignment of
Route 2. It was, understood that there were not.
available at the time plans for streets to be accepted
under the Bettement Act. Before taking action upon
the proposed acceptance of these streets, the Board
decided that it should first see the plans for said
streets.
ASSOCIATES Read to the 'Board was Deputy Chief Belcastro's
REALTY January 28, 1957 letter addressed to Mr. Snow, said
TRUST PLANS letter stating that the Fire Prevention Bureau could
not approve the hotel plans as drawn as it was found
that the plans from a public safety standpoint are
inadequate and are not in detail. It was decided to
read the letter at the public hearing to be held on
January 30, 1957 in regard to the hotel plans, incor-
porating said letter into the minutes of the hearing.
It was decided also to have a tape recorder and micro-
phones set up at the hearing to assist the secretary
in preparing detailed minutes of said hearing for the
Planning Board records.
BOARD OF Mr. Grindle arrived at the meeting at 9:10 p.m. '
APPEALS at which time the Board tools under consideration Board
NOTICES of Appeals notices of petitions to be heard on Feb. 5,
1957. It was decided to take no action on the pets
tions to be heard except those of Richard H. Singleton
' and the F.P.Morgan Co.
Mr. Singleton wished to maintain a toolhouse
abutting the rear lot line located at 379 Woburn Street
It was decided to oppose the variance requested in the
petition and to submit to the Board of Appeals a letter
setting forth the Planning Board's reasons for such
opposition.*
p ositiomber l9 et
said letter
tobe similar to the Board's
opposing an earlier petition
of Mr. Singleton.
The petition of the F.P.Morgan Company sought
permission to erect an $' x 10' real estate sign on
property controlled by Stephen Hopkins et al on the
southwest side of the intersection of Route 128 and
Massachusetts Avenue. The Board decided to oppose the
granting of the permission requested and to submit to
the Board of Appeals a letter in which it was stated
that the Planning Board believes that a sign such as
is proposed is out of keeping with the standards Lex-
ington is trying to maintain in regard to signs, that
the Board sees no reason for a larger sign in the lo-
cation referred to in the petition than is allowed for
real estate signs in other R 1 districts, and that at
' the present time the land is not being subdivided for
residential purposes so that a sign of the size per-
mitted under Section 6 (f) of the Zoning By-law is not
necessary.
The secretary was dismissed at 9:45 p.m. at which
time the Board met with the Appropriation Committee to
discuss the Board's budget for the coming year. The
Board adjourned at 10:30 p.m. after it had left its
meeting with said committee.
