A regular meeting of the Planning Board was
held in the Town Fnpineer ' s Room, Town Office Build-
ing, on Monday, January 7, 1957 at 7 35 n.m. Pres-
ent were Chairman Hathaway, Messrs. Abbott, Adams,
Burnell, Grindle and Jaquith; Planning rirector Snow,
and the secretary, Mrs . Milliken.
The Board approved the following bills which
had been nresented for payment: Spaulding-Moss Co. , BILLS
tracing paper-- 7.60; Mary G. Campbell, secretarial
services- 10.00 ; Anne H. Milliken, secretarial ser-
vices-- 5.00.
The Board also a-,proved the minutes of its
meeting on December 26, 1056.
The following Form A application was taken
under consideration for determination of Planning FORM A
Board jurisdiction
/157-1, submitted on Jan. 2, 1057 by Joseph
C. Hurley; nlan entitled "A Compiled Plan of
Land in Lexington, Mass. ", Scale: 1" = 20 ' ,
dated Dec 7, 1956, Miller and Nylander,
C.E. 's A: Surveyors, Lexington , Mass.
It was moved, seconded and unanimously
VOTE ' that the plan accompanying Applica-
tion #57-1 be signed bearing the en-
dorsement '`Lexington Planning Board
annroval not required under subdivi-
sion control law. "
Mr. dans arrived at the meeting at 7 :10
Taken under consideration next was the Janu-
ary 3, 1957 application of the Associates Realty ASSOCIATES
Trust for a determination that the "plans constitute REALTY
a desirable development in accordance with the Town TRUST
Zoning By-laws " Said application was accompanied HOTEL PLAN
by a January 3, 1°57 letter addressed to the Board
and signed by John F. °Troden, Mrs. Seabury ' s attor-
ney, stating that Mrs Seabury had that day deliv-
ered to the Associates Fealt=- Trust a deed of land
upon which the hotel was pronosed to be constructed
and that all other deeds of land, easements from
Mrs . Seabury, the Town of Lexington and the Metho-
dist Church have been delivered and recorded as of said 11date. Mr. Groden wrote in addition that on said date
he had delivered to the Town Counsel the option for pur-
chase by the Town the so-called Parcel C of the Seabury
land on the easterly side of Route 128.
All matters appearing to be in order in regard
to the application, it was decided to hold a public hear
ing on said application on January 30, 1057 at 8:00 n.m
in Estabrook Hall.
Mr. Jaquith arrived at 7:45 p.m.
The Board discussed newspaper articles in the
December 23, 1956 issues of the Boston Globe and Herald
quoting Mr. Hopkins ' statements in regard to the pro-
posed hotel, some of these statements which he accredited
to Messrs. Adams and Hathaway. Discussed also was Mr.
Hopkins ' January 3, 1957 letter to 8ngineeri.ng News-Record
asking that a correction be made in its listing which
appeared in the January 3, 1957 issue of said periodical
in regard to proposed industrial buildings and develop-
ment proposed by Stephen Hopkins Assoc . ,Inc. on land at
the junction of Routes 128 and 2 A.
It was decided that there should be published in
the January 2L , 1957 issue of the Lexi^gton Minute-man
an article setting forth the facts in regard to the case,
refuting the statements made in the periodicals men-
tioned above, and announcing the date and place of the
public hearing to be held under the town 's zoning by-law.
Taken under consideration next were the notices

APPEALS the Board of Appeals on January 22, 1Q57. It was de-
NOTICES cided to go on record as onnosing the granting of Richard
H. Soule and Albert Ampolo, the Dorothy C. Coburn, and
the Associates Pealt« Trust petitions and to write
letters to the Board of Appeals setting forth the Plan-
ning Board ' s reasons for such onposition. For the
Board' s final consideration Yr. Snow was asked to draft
said letters from the secretary 's transcribed notes.
From 8:25 to 8:50 p.m. the Board met with the
TOWN Selectmen and the Board of Assessors to discuss the
MAP progress report and recommendations in regard to the
preparation of town maps as set forth in the Planning
Board's January 3, 1957 letter to the Selectmen. (See
the Selectmen' s minutes for a record of this confer-
ence. )

Discussed in detail was a list of conflicts in
1-7-57 -2-
street names which it was thought might be considered
for an article in the warrant for the Annual Town
Meetin7. After reducing the list considerably by elim-
inating less important conflicts, it was decided to
give the matter further consideration at the next meet-
ing of the Board .
The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
