PLANNING BOARD MEETING
Monday, September 20, 1954
Presents Adams, Grindle, Hathaway, Irwin, Jaquith - Snow.
Meeting opened at 7=45 o'clock. Mr. Adams showed the Board some
diagrams of Subdivision procedures which were deemed to be very helpful.
It was moved by Mr. Jaquith, seconded by Mr. Grindle and so voted that 100
small -type procedures be purchased. These are priced at $2,00 per 100.
Form A dated September 20, plan dated September 16, presented by Mr. John
E. Hossfield, Reed st., Lexington, redividing three lots into two.
Form A dated September 17, 1954, plan dated September 8, 1954 presented by
�=ss H. Murray, 11 Long St., Allston, redividing three lots into two.
Form A dated September 7, plan dated September 3, presented by Morris G.
Mace j 22 Fletcher Ave., Lexington, showing change in boundary il�i�e.
Moved by Mr. Grindle, seconded by Mr. Jaquith, and so voted that
all above Form A's be signed.
Bill
Bill presented by Rita McNamara, typing agreements, $25.00. Unan-
imously voted the bill be paid.
Leeland Construction Co.
Plan of Leeland Construction Co., Robinson Hill - Diana Lane and
Wingate Road - approved on August 23rd endorsed "Approved by Lexington
Planning Board subject to the condition that lots 6, 7, ll, 1, 13 and 12
shall not be built upon without prior consent of the Lexington Board of
Health" signed.
DeVries Construction Co.
Mr. George DeVries present with plan of Sun Valley, Section 2,
dated August 2. Moved by Mr. Grindle, seconded by Mr. Hathaway and so
voted that the plan be approved. Public hearing on this plan was held
August 23.
Since Mr. Adams had to leave, Mr. Irwin was unanimously elected
to serve -as Chairman pro tem.
Mr. Watson
Mr. Watson, Mr. Ford, and Mr. Anastasy in with plan of land on
Grove St. dated September, 1954 for informal discussion. Also with plan of
land on Winter Sb.
Anderson
Mr. Anderson of Arlington in with plan of Garden Center which he
would like to build at triangle of Weston St. and Concord Pike. He wished
'
the Board's opinion as to the best way of handling, rezoning whether by g or
Board of Appeals. Both methods of handling were explained. A1tho the Board
did not give Mr: Anderson any encouragement, they gave it as their informal
opinion that it would be a large sum of money to invest on a yearly basis,
and that probably rezoning would be the best solution.
Graham
Discussion was held on the hearing to be held by the Board of
Appeals on Thursday next on petition of William Graham Jr. for a funeral
parlor -in the existing building at 1508 Massachusetts avenue. Mr- GriXLdle
moved, Mr. Hathaway seconded and it was
VOTEDs That a letter be written by -.Mr. Jaquith to the Board o:f Appeals
stating that 'The Planning Board.is opposed to the granting of
s uch permission on the grounds that the Board ofothe
has
not the authority to grant under Section 5 (a) 7 -

Zoning By-law. Also the granting of permission of a funeral
home at.this-location would create serious traffic problems
and hazards to school children. Furtherr=G, the Zoning Law
now permits funeral homes in C-1 districts subject to Board
of Appeals approval and in C-2 districts without Board -of
Appeals permission.'
Mr. Aiden Ripley was not present at the meeting in which this discussion was
held. '
