Bill Bill presented by Adams Press, advertising hearing April 12, Dianne Estates, $3.75* unanimously voted the bill be paid. Greeley Mr. Roland -Greeley present for discussion re: consultant and per- manent employee. Mr. Greeley also feels that since there are civil engineers already employed it would be better to have someone with planning background. New subdivision should be studied with a -view to future development and a trained city planner would be invaluable. When asked what the chances would be of getting someone with degrees -in both, Mr. Greeley stated that the chances are small. There are such, but the supply is limited and the demand great. He stated that the background should'not be overemphasized -'it de- pends more on the man than on the background. He mentioned one name, Robert Davidson, who is now working for the City of Boston on the Planning Board. He doesn't know that he would be interested, but would be good if he was. Would probably have to pay $6000. Should see that there is some kind of con- tinuing program. Approved of the suggested town planning comrhi.ttee which he thinks should be of 15-20 in number and representative of the town geograph- ically as well as professionally. They should plan now on set-up of policy on extension of business zones, parking, etc. Too many people are impatient so cannot postpone decisions until there is a master plan. As soon as you are sure where parking spaces are going, can then go ahead with details, Mr. Burns feels that the man should be well grounded in engineer- ing work that he might be able to take the responsibility for some of the work. Most planners do riot have the experience or know-how to take over a practical job and finish it. They make plans and then get the engineer to fill in the details. Plans must be right before the town gets them. Liberty Avenue On problem of naming of Liberty Avenue, it was the advice of Mr. Stevens that the name be definitely changed to avoid confusion. No name was arrived at, however. Recreation Committee Members of the Recreation Committee appeared relative to article in Town Warrant proposing sale of "Poor Farm" property. Stated they had re- ceived a petition from citizens in that neighborhood who would like to have a part set aside for recreational purposes, possibly 2-3 acres. Committee ad- vised that the Board could do nothing about it at this time but would keep it in mind. M Meeting adjourned at 9:30 o'clock. W. M. Jaquith, Clerk
