HomeMy WebLinkAbout1953-05-04PLANNING BOARD MEETING ' Monday, May 41 1953 Present: Adams, Grindle, Hathaway, Irwin, Potter. Meeting opened at 7;45 o'clock. B� Bill presented by Adams Press, publishing hearing May 7, 14, John Baskin, $7.50. Unanimously voted the bill be paid. Hearing- Westgate Builders Public hearing was held at 8 o'clock on petition of Westgate Build- ers, Inc. for approval as a subdivision land on north aide of No. Hancock St. about 160' east of Bertwell road having one proposed street running north of No. Hancock for a distance of approximately 7501. Mr. Thcmpson of Everett Brooks' office appeared for petitioner. Eleven citizens were present. Several -questions were asked pertaining to drainage, type of houses, etc. There were no objections providing the houses were in keeping with present neighborhood. Mr. Foskett and Mr. Taisy both recorded as in favor. Moved by Mr. Potter, seconded by Mr. Irwin that the plans be approved subject to approval by Mr. Burns and Board of Health. So voted. Ampolo Mr. Ampolo presented profiles for his plan previously presented. These seemed to be in order. Moved by Mr. Potter, seconded by Mr. Grindle that the plans be tentatively approved. So voted. Universal Development Corp. Mr. Ducharme and Mr. Nylander appeared with plan of Millbrook sub- division between Adams and North streets, formerly Herlihy land, plan of Miller & Nylander dated May 4, 1953. It was voted to tentatively approve these plans subject to approval by Mr..Burns and Board of Health. Stevens Plan of Walter Black's showing abandonment of end of Slocum road was turned over to Mr. S erns._ who will look into the legality. Mr. Stevens also to get a copy of Belmont Zoning Laws. Mr. Adams stated that Kell C oration is coarsing before the Board of Appeals with request to privately meter a parking lot, and wished to know the status of this request. Mr. Stevens' opinion was that altho this ' area is in C-2, this is not a permitted use and the Planning Board would have a right to object. With regard to problem of Mr. Wilson's backland on Cary Estate off f. . Marrett road, Mr. Stevens stated this was a problem for Mr. Wilson to , work out himself and that no one could be compelled to build a road to his land. Peacock Farm Mr. Robbins, 7.430 Mass. Ave., Cambridge of Mr. Compton's office asked for final approval on rest of Phase 1 of Peacock Farm development which includes next 10 lots on Mason street and Peacock Farm road. This plan had been studied previously and it was tentatively approved subject to approval by Mr. Burns and Board of Health. Date for hearing was set for Monday, May 25, 8 o'clock. Robinson Hill Mr. Nylander appearing for Mr, Newgent presented plan of Robinson Hill showing change in plan of aor road, it to join Cedar street in- stead of Woodberry road. Mr. Nylander was informed that the Board would like evidence that Mr. Newgent holds title before proceeding with any fur- ther plans. Selectmen Thee. Board adjourned to the Selectmen's office. It was recommended that the Selectmen consider widening the following streets: Burlington, Allen, Concord avenue, Johnson road, and No. Hancock -street. It was ' stated that Burlington street is very definitely a traffic hazard and will become more and more so with the new subdivisions rapidly beiAg developed. This also holds true with No. Hancock street and Concord avenue. Also, it would be well to take care of Allen street before it becomes built up. The Selectmen stated these recommendations wouLld be given careful consideration. lmb Meeting adjourned at 10 p.m. Thomas S. Grindle, Clerk
