Unanimously voted. H.G.Allen-U S.A.F. Mr. H. G. Allen of the Corps of Engineers, U.S.A.F., appeared to explain plan of Federal developments in this area and their effect on Town of Lexington with regard to water, sewerage, etc. He explained that the time element is of great importance, and that any decisions by the Town will have to be made within six weeks. It isexpected that the Air Force will have 3,000 troops in by the end of a year with another 5,000 civilian employees at M.I.T. and Research labora- tory. The present plan is to tie in Hanscom Field and Laboratory sewerage with the M.D.C. in Arlington using the B & M right-of-way, with a 12" pipe being used. It would probably be satisfactory to have the Town of Lexing- ton tie in with this provided they pay the difference in expenses involved in using a larger pipe. It is expected to take the water from the Town of Lexington's metropolitan supply. With regard to fire, they will have their own elevated tank and hydrants, but will need assistance by mutual aid from Bedford and /axing- ton. There will undoubtedly be a government fire department in time. Traffic will create a problem. The M.S.T. group will use one gate, Research Laboratory another gate, and it is figured that approximately 700 cars will be using Wood Street morning and night. There is no authority for contribution to roads by this project. 20 Buildings will be good-looking, concrete, some two-story, some three, and two cafeterias will serve personnel. A representative of the Planning Board is invited to attend a joint meeting on Monday, October 22, 2 o'clock at Ill.Buick Building, 857 Commonwealth Ave.,Boston, which will include representatives from U.S.A.F., U.P.Ravy, Aderal Security Agency, Veteran's Administration Mese.Dept. of Public Health, M.D.C., Cambridge Research Laboratory, Whit- man-Howard, and an engineer of Raytheon Mfg.Co. Edwin H.Joal Mr. Edwin H. Jose of 689 Mass.Ave.,Cambaridge appeared with plan for Selfridge of Carl Road, originally approved in 1947. Town later granted a drainage easement which took off a corner of Lot 9 and leaves it without an entrance. !ants to know what can be done about it, and would Like to know within a week. Aighitects Collaborative Mr. Norman Fletcher and Mr. Benjamin Thompson appeared with plans for further development of area known as Five Fields for tentative approval. These were left for approval by Town Engineer Mr. Burns. Also submitted for discussion were plans for rental housing. These are made up in neighborhood groups so that streets may be correctly planned and all necessary facilities be included within a certain area. Houses come in unified sections so they may be used as singles, or fitted together into doubles or larger units. Meeting adjourned at 10:15 until the following Monday, October 22. rTh W. S.
