PUNNING BOARD MEETING
Llonday, Sept. ll, 1950
Present: Cromwell,.Adams, Caouette, Johnson, Ripley, Potter.
lAeeting opened at 7:40 p.m.
Russell House property
fdr.Caouette left as he preferred not to be present during the dis-
cussion of the hearing on the Russell House property. fJr.Adams and Lb%
Johnson both stated they thought it was time for some type of apartment
house. Is.Ripley stated he did not think it should be on the main street
as it would mar the town's appearance and destroy its Colonial atmosphere.
1>1r.Adams said the Center had already changed a great deal in the last
twenty years, especially the Russell House since part of it had been torn
down and since the gas station had been put in. All agree that the plans were
not unattractive. fslr.Johnson thinks that the Russell House site is as good
as any for that type of building as it is hard to get a desirable spot. Mr.
Cromwell thinks this is a chance to guide the type of building going up as
so far there hasn't been much chance to control what is built. Llr.Potter
would not be in favor if there were any chance of keeping things as they
were but under the circumstances thinks this is the best way out. Vote -
for garden type apartments For: Mr.Adams, f.1r.Johnson, fdr.Potter; Against:
iir.Cromwell, 11r.Ripley. Vote as to Russell House site - Divided as above.
Mr.Cromwell was instructed to write up a report for the Town Meet-
ing for consideration of the Planning Board.

h1r.Fred Joyce appeared for 1)1r.James Carig of Belmont with plans and
profiles of subdivision of portion of so-called Cutler Farm on Concord
avenue showing 28 lots with additional frontage on a new way to be estab-
lished. Plans were taken under advisement.
