Arts & Crafts Society Delegation
F: t
Consisting of Messrs. Hubbard, Parsons, Cass, hardy, Vadebon-
couer, and Zitso. Pr$.Cass was the spokesman for the group. Mr. Cass
stated that the group wished to expand and broaden the 'zoning By-laws
so as to permit home arts and crafts. He outlined the reason for the
Arts & Crafts Society and why they were before the Board, and then
quoted Sec. 4, and would like to insert new section before sub -section
6. The present law might be interpreted to allow needed crafts uses
but a new section was suggested as follows: "5-A - The right to prac-
tice and teach vocational and avocational Arts and Skills, to wits por-
trait, landscape, textile, tray and other .painting generally asso-
ciated with the arts; ceramics, needlework, photography, music (vocal
and instrumental), decoration, metal word (silversmithing and allied
arts), jewelry making, woodworking (carving, cabinet making and allied
crafts), sculpturing, literary pursuits, pottery, weaving and rug hook-
ing, insofar as such practice or teaching does not alter the character
of the premises on which they are located or impair the neighborhood."
Another section was suggested as follows: "5-B. The conduct of
any normal business or professional practice within the home which does
not alter the character of the premises on which they are conducted or
impair the neighborhood."
After considerable discussion the group left with the decision
that both groups would further consider the subject. Mr.Blackwell
(who just came in) will look up the data on "customary home occupa-
tions".
