HomeMy WebLinkAbout1948-11-30PLA MING BOARD EMING November 30, 1948 Present: Johnson, burns, Adams, Ripley, Cromwell, Richards. The records of the previous meeting were read and accepted. Golden ;Avenue Subdivision Mr. Ford of Everett M. Brooks Co.,C.E., presented plan (sub- mitted last week) of Golden avenue for final approval. Mr.Burns suggested marking limits of temporary turn -around and bounds. The Board approved the plan in form with minor changes. The date of hearing was set for Tuesday, December 14, at 8 p.m. in the Select- men's office. Arts & Crafts Society Delegation F: t Consisting of Messrs. Hubbard, Parsons, Cass, hardy, Vadebon- couer, and Zitso. Pr$.Cass was the spokesman for the group. Mr. Cass stated that the group wished to expand and broaden the 'zoning By-laws so as to permit home arts and crafts. He outlined the reason for the Arts & Crafts Society and why they were before the Board, and then quoted Sec. 4, and would like to insert new section before sub -section 6. The present law might be interpreted to allow needed crafts uses but a new section was suggested as follows: "5-A - The right to prac- tice and teach vocational and avocational Arts and Skills, to wits por- trait, landscape, textile, tray and other .painting generally asso- ciated with the arts; ceramics, needlework, photography, music (vocal and instrumental), decoration, metal word (silversmithing and allied arts), jewelry making, woodworking (carving, cabinet making and allied crafts), sculpturing, literary pursuits, pottery, weaving and rug hook- ing, insofar as such practice or teaching does not alter the character of the premises on which they are located or impair the neighborhood." Another section was suggested as follows: "5-B. The conduct of any normal business or professional practice within the home which does not alter the character of the premises on which they are conducted or impair the neighborhood." After considerable discussion the group left with the decision that both groups would further consider the subject. Mr.Blackwell (who just came in) will look up the data on "customary home occupa- tions". Letter from Six Moon Hill, Inc Mr. Burns discussed the layout. Held over. Mr. Blackwell Ph% Cromwell discussed two bills presented by 1.1r. Blackwell. First bill is for $550 for Town studies. This is to be paid for from the $2200 appropriation (less $450 already paid for aerial survey). Mr.Richards moved and Mr. Ripley seconded a motion to approve this bili. So voted. Second bill is for $500 on account on the project of re- drafting zoning by-law and map. Mr.Northen moved and t,Sr.Johnson seconded a motion to approve. Budget for 1949 Letter from hh-. Blackwell containing various suggestions for the coming year. Jb?.Blackwell left the room and there was long and continuous discussion. It was decided to ask for $2000.
