Hearing on Selfridge Development At 7:30 p.m. the hearing on the application for approval as a sub- I division of the property of Modern Home Building Trust, William Selfridge, Trustee, 150 Adams Street, was held. This hearing was advertised in the September 2, 194E, issue of the Lexington Minute-Man and abutters were duly notified by mail. Mr.Cromwell explained that this application was an amend- ment to an application which had been previously approved and carried out. An error in placing a house on the corner of Carl and Adams Street too close to the street line was the reason for this new petition. Maps show- ing the change were submitted for the examination of those interested citi- zens who were present. Me.Cromwell asked if there were any objections. There were no objections and the hearing was closed. Beside the Board mem- bers there were present: Mr.Selfridge, Mr.S.C.tawrence, Mr.Carl Bolter and Mr.P.C.Ellis. After the conclusion of the hearing, Mr.Johnson and Mr. Adams seconded the motion that the amendment petitioned for by Mr.Selfridge be approved. It was unanimously so voted. .Leon BatemagFe Private Parking Area Mr.Leon Bateman appeared to explain the proposed new parking area in the rear of the stores on the easterly side of Massachusetts Avenue between Edison Way and Depot Square. Mr.Bateman explained that changes of owner- ship have caused the new owners (Minot, Williams and Bangs, Agents) to be definitely cooperative toward establishing a private parking area on their land. Mr.Daniel O'Connell, the Atlantic & Pacific Co. and the B & M Rail- road ailroad were anxious to cooperate in thisidea for the entire area. They had tentatively made certain reservations; i.e., the B & M would like to have some responsible agent (like the Townin charge. The principals in this case would like the Town to consider putting in a road from Edison Way to Depot Square to join these private parking areas. The question is, does the Town wish to recommend this road for the safety and convenience of the general public. Duringthe discussion an aerial mapof the area was used to obtain data. The Board decided to take the matter under consideration. Report by John Blackwell, Mr.Blackwell, who came into the meeting at 9 o'clock, showed more de- tailed maps of a proposed new general road system for the Town. There was considerable discussion. parking deters Mr.Johnson asked for an expression of opinion on parking meters. Mr. Johnson said his personal opinion was that additional free parking space was necessary to make meters effective, and there was general agreement with him. It was pointed out that deeper lots are needed on the west side of Massachusetts Avenue to provide room for private off-the-street parking before parking meters can be installed. The meeting was ad3ourned at 10830 p.m. Respectfully submitted, ? I C%C C.w..} t -ed LC4 . Alan G. Adams, Clerk
