PING BOARD METING
April 24,1947
Present: idessrs.Worthen, Nickerson, Ferguson, Richards and Houdlette
The Planning Board met jointly with the School Committee and Board of
Selectmen at 7:30 p.m. for the purpose of discussing mutual problems and to
consider the possibility of a long-range school building program.
School problems and sites were discussed at length and the Planning
Board's assistance was desired by the School Committee. The Board agreed to
cooperate by making its own study and recommendations, after which a meeting
will be held with the School Committee before the findings are presented to
the Selectmen, in an effort to reach a common understanding.
11r.Thomas outlined one possible approach which has been considered by
his Committee. This plan contemplated carrying out the necessary renovations
and improvements to the existing Hancock School building (without construct-
ing an addition) and then building, first, a new grade school in the loca-
tion recommended for Nichols' #2 School, or possibly nearer Adams and East
streets. This school viould then accommodate about 100 pupils now attending
Hancock, leaving room there for pupils now being transported to the Franklin
School.
If the Planning Board agrees to this procedure, a specific site should
be determined and recommended for the new school.
Respectfully submitted,
