HomeMy WebLinkAbout1946-07-02PLANNING BOARD MEETING I July 2, 1946. Present: Messrs. Worthen, Ferguson, Richards and Houdlette A. E. Rowse: Signs Mr. Rowse, of the Board of Selectmen, appeared before the Board at 8:00 p.m. to discuss further the question of signs on business buildings to which this Board had previousl recorded itself as opposed to any relaxation of the articles in the Building By-law. Mr. Rowse stated that he favored either a complete enforcement of the By-law as it stands, or an amendment which would permit neon signs - which require, under accepted methods of installation, greater than the 6" allowable projection. Considerable discussion followed regarding the wording and reasons for the By-law, without an agree*tn)being reached. Further consideration is to be given to this matter by this Board; with a definite recommendation if possible. Castle Road Mr. -�W. H. Lyon, representing the owner Mr. Baskin, and Mr. ' Albert Miller, appeared before the Board at 9;00 p.m. to present a preliminary subdivision layout of the former "Blake Meadow" and adjacent property, bounded by Franklin Road, Somerset Road, Hayes Avenue and Meriam Street. Castle Road is laid out 501 wide, and follows approximately the present foot -path, as originally planned by Whitman and Howard. A total of 24 lots are indicated, with an average area well in excess of 20,000 sq. ft. Mr. Lyon stated that boringshad been taken, indicating gravel on the edges of the land, and peat through the center swale - approximately where the old drains exist that were put through by the Town in former years. The Board approved the lotting as shown, and advised study to be madecf services, which were not indicated. The question of sewer and surface drainage therefore was discussed, and it appeared feasible for these to be developed and tied in properly. Parking Area The Chairman reported that he had met with the Selectmen as directed, and spoke briefly of the results of this conference. Next Meeting The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 16, at 8:00 p.m., ' at which time the following subjects are to be considered: 1.) Parking Area 2.) Signs 3.) Trailers ( as used for purposes of habitation, and relation of building by-law) and any other old and new business to be brought up at this time.
