1QETING OF PLANNING BOARD
May 14, 1945
Present
Messrs. Houdlette, Richards, Tyorthen, Nickerson,.Ferguson
and Cromwell.
Dumping
In response to a letter from the Planning Board in regard
to dumping along the railroad tracks, the selectmen replied that they
realized the existence of this trouble but that there was difficulty
in controlling it due to a shortagecd'manpower. They said the
matter would be referred to the Board of Health. After considering
the various remedies the Planning Board informally concluded it
would be best to talk with the selectmen again suggesting that the
matter be placed in the hands of the police.
Rapid Transit
As a result of an informal discussion on the proposed rapid
' transit system which would end at Arlington Heights and still leave
Lexington commuters with the necessity of traveling to Arlington
Heights by bus, it was concluded that the proposed plan was not
satisfactory from Lexington's viewpoint.
Marrett Road
Mr. Houdlette said that the Planning Board should be
thinking over possible treatment of Marrett Road. It is a question
of whether Marrett Road between its two intersections with Massa-
chusetts Avenue should merely be resurfaced by the town or made into
a secondary highway with 800 feet sight distance. In the latter
event State and Federal funds would be used and there would have
to be large land takinTs either to widen the existing right of way
or to relocate it elsewhere in part. It seemed to be the consensus
of opinion that it would.be preferable merely to resurface the road.
Adjourned sine die.
