July 12, 1944
Present : All members.
Street Signs
The Board traveled by car over a good part of the main
highways of Lexington and made notes on the condition of
existing street and route signs and on the desirability of
location. They also made notes of locations where signs should
be placed.
Later they discussed this matter with Mr. Paxton. He
had been aware of the poor condition of signs and appreciated
the Board's work. The Board offered to make a more complete
survey if he wished and he said this would be of great assistance.
The Board is to meet on Tuesday, July 18, to continue its
survey of signs.
Water Main
Mr. Paxton told the Board that a new water main is
projected between Massachusetts Avenue and Lowell Street.
He suggests that as long as this will require considerable
excavation it would be a good idea to lay out or build a
road which the water main can follow. His proposed route would
follow Fottler Avenue to Hillcrest and thence to Lowell Street.
Mosquito Control
It was voted to write to the Board of Health suggesting
that the present would be a good time to inaugurate a program
of mosquito control.
Postwar Plans
It was voted to record the present intention of the Board
to take up with the Selectmen in the fall the Board's report of
October 25, 1943 on postwar plans .
Next Meeting
The next meeting is to be on July 18, 1944 to complete the
survey of street signs .
