HomeMy WebLinkAbout1944-02-28MEETING OF PLANNING BOARD February 28, 1944 Present: Messrs. Greeley, Ferguson, Worthen, Nickerson, Richards & Cromwell. Larchmont Lane The Board viewed a plan entitled "Proposed Sub- division of Land in Lexington, "scale 1" equals 401, drawn by Everett N. Bi&ooks. The plan showed the existing lines of Larchmont Lane. This street is now 25 feet wide. The plan showed in white lines a proposed relocation of the street lines which would provide for a 40 -foot right of way. Superimposed was a modified layout in red lines also providing a 40 -foot right of way. Mr. Cosgrove advised the Board that he had taken up the proposed layout, as modified by the red lines, with the interested property owners and that they all expressed their approvals. ' The Board_ voted its approval of the 40 -foot layout as modified by the red lines. Central Fire Station Mr. Richards reported that Archie Bullock, Police Chief of Arlington, had expressed views unfavorable to placing a combined fire and police station on the Barnes property. He strongly felt there would be friction among the firemen and police. He also strongly felt a police station should be on a side street to provide greater privacy for local citizens who might have business there, either enforced or voluntary. Mr. Worthen reported several conversations with authorities in nearby towns were all unfavorable to a combined station. Mr. Greeley had talked with Captain John Stokes of the state police who expressed great disapproval of any plan to combine the police and fire departments under one roof. ' Mr. Ferguson reported. conversations with outside local authorities who believed a combination would be bad on the grounas that it would tend to reduce the privacy of citizens and promote gossip on local disturbances.
