HomeMy WebLinkAbout1943-11-291 1 n PLANNING BOARD MEETING November 29, 1943 A meeting of the Planning Board was held on November 29th at the Town Office Building with Messrs. Greeley, Nickerson, Worthen, Richards and Cromwell. The Planning Board met with the Chamber of Commerce. The subject of the Bedford Airport was briefly discussed Bedford and it was decided to meet again with the Chamber of Commerce Airport to discuss it further at 8 P. M. on December 27th. The construction of five proposed streets was discussed: 1. Extension of Oakland Street to Hancock Street 2. Extension of Oakland Street to Grant Street 3. Extension of Sherman Street to Woburn Street 4. Extension of Park Drive to Vine Brook Road 5. A,road'connacting Waltham, Muzzey and Clarke Streets, running parallel to Massachusetts Avenue Of these projects #5 is the most important as it involves a proposed parking area and possible changes in zoning near the Center. The Planning Board and the Chamber of Commerce agreed on the following: 1. The road connecting Waltham and Muzzey Streets should be wide enough for two-way traffic at least. 2. A parking area should be provided in the middle of the Waltham, Muzzey, Massaehusetts.Avenue block by the Town. (Mr. Custanee held some reservations on this but did not Parking oppose it.) Area 3. The Muzzey Street, Clarke Street and Raymond Street block should be made an apartment zone. 4. To have a model made of the proposed parking area if possible. Use of land to south of street connecting Waltham and Muzzey Streets was left undecided. In connection with postwar planning, it is noted that Post-war these various projects would employ labor. Planning The Town Warrant should contain two articles re: 1. The Waltham-Muzzey Street 2. The parking area Numbers 1 and 2 on the list first above are covered in the Board of Survey Plans. Mr. Fred K. Johnson is Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and is the one to address questions on matters affecting the Chamber of Commerce. Chamber of Commerce Planning Board Meeting 2. Mr. Nickerson reported that he had attended two meetings of the Lexington Committee on Rehabilitation , and 'Employment. It was Voted to make available not over $150.00 for a model of this project.
