HomeMy WebLinkAbout1942-04-06PLANNING BOARD MEETING I April 61, 1942 A regular meeting of the Planning Board was held in the Town Office Building on Monday, April 6th, at 7;30 P.M. Messrs. Greeley, Kimball, Nickerson, Worthen and Newhall were present. The minutes of the last meeting were approved as presented. A letter was read from Mr. Giroux, Chairman of the Selectmen, calling attention to part of the report of the Traffic Massachusetts Selectmen's Association which he enclosed. This pertained to the sum of $25,000. allocated for the use of cities and towns for surveys of traffic and bottle- neck conditions. Mr. Giroux asked the Board for any sug- gestions as to the possible use of some of this fund by Lexington. The clerk was instructed to write him and point out the following potential problems for this town; 1. Handling of traffic serving the new Bedford Airnort 2. Connection between the proposed Middlesex Tfzrnpike and the present Concord Turnpike. 3. The possibility of the State installing a more complete and adequate system of state highway signs or markers ' in Lexington, since our lack of proper signs and directions is a real problem. A letter from Allen IV. Rucker, Chairman of the Public Letter from Safety Committee, was received thanking the Board and Mr. Public Safe - Kimball in particular for the use of the population density ty Committee map. It was mentioned that Hatch's Pond., in the Lexington Homes layout, was being used by some of the property owners for the dumping of rubbish. The clerk was instructed to Lexington write a letter to the Lexington Lumber Company or the Lex- Homes., Inc. ington Homes, Inc., calling attention to this fact and Subdivision pointing out that any tendency to depart from the original layout by filling in the pond should first have the approval of the Town. Mr. Giles Smith of Belmont, an architect and member of the Belmont Planning Board, appeared with plans for a pro- Simonds posed subdivision of a portion of the so-called "Simonds Farm Farm" adjacent to Grove Street and Robinson Road. The plans, after a few suggested changes, met with the general approval of the Board. The Board authorized Mr. Greeley to get up to date on East the situation at Great Meadows and report back to the Board Lexington on the present status. Meadows The budget work having been completed for this Six -Year year, the next step was declared to be the drafting of more Budget definite plans for some of the capital improvement items submitted by the various department heads. Mr. Greeley , was asked to write the three department heads who showed the apparent largest future activity, viz: school, fire, and park, and ask them to furnish the Board with any definite plans or figures which they might have available. The meeting was adjourned at 9:55 P. M. The next meeting will be held on Monday, April 27th, at 7:30 P.M. Respectfully submitted, Clerk 1 1
