A letter was received from the Board of Selectmen
asking that the Planning Board give consideration to the
matter of overhanging signs in the town and the possible
elimination of them. The Board reviewed the past history
and legal aspects of this question, and moved and seconded
that the following vote be submitted to the Selectmen as
this Board's recommendation:
"The Planning Board recommends that the sections of
the Building Code governing the use of permanent exterior
signs in C-1, T-1 and M-1 zones, be changed to establish a
maximum size of not over two feet in vertical width and of
a length not to exceed the width of the building at the
fronta§e line.
There shall be not more than one exterior sign for
each firm or business occupying a building and all signs
shall be erected flat against the building.
"All new signs shall conform to this regulation and
all signs must conform not later than January 1, 19456.
Overhanging
signs.
In regard to the field trip of Aug. 15th, the list of
areas suitable for apartment construction, if they should be
presented, was reviewed and modified. It was the opinion of Apartment
the Board that at the same time study might well bd given sones
to the problem of the large frame house, essentially a part
of the apartment problem. Mr. Kimball reviewed the case
briefly from the standpoint of the Board of Appeals, and in
what ways this urgent question has been faced and solved to
date. The Board agreed that an informal survey of the main
residential areas of the town should be undertaken by the
members to consider what residences, without external changes,
might be considered proper as a dwelling for two families,
and why. The map was divided into sections for this purpose.
The next meeting will be held on Sept. 16th.
The meeting adjourned at 9:50 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Clerk.
