HomeMy WebLinkAbout1940-06-10PLANNING BOARD MEETING ' June 10, 19400 A regular meeting of the Planning Board was held Monday, June 10, at 7:30 P.M. in the Town Office Building. All members were present. Old Business: The Clerk reported the mapping of street numbers being done by the Boy Scouts in connection with the plotting of property listing as 75% completed. The Chairman is to speak to Mr. Dana Norris in connection with a survey by the Scouts on illegal billboards. New Business: Mr. Kimball offered reports received on advance programming and budgeting by the towns of Winchester and Brookline; more comprehensive reports should be received later. Mr. Kimball offered to contact Mr. Robert Merriam to obtain, if possible, a 5 -year program mapped out by Mr. Raymond. ' In connection with the Chairman's request to Mr. Cutter re: surplus food staples in anticipation of food shortages in Europe, Mr. Greeley reported a letter from Mr. R. B. Greeley of the National Resources Planning Board, to the Department of Agriculture asking what steps the government is taking on this matter. Payment of bill from Thayer Rudd for the amount of $12.00 (drafting time on master plan) was approved. This map now includes water and sewer services, and public owner- ships. This plan, showing the town's physicial plant, is being developed simultaneously with.the Board's other 800 survey, showing unused properties already developed. Mr. Kimball was authorized to employ Mr. Miller of the Engineering Dept. to complete the work on the Master Plan, this work not to exceed what remains of the original budget set aside for the plotting. Mr. Nickerson agreed to furnish suitable sheets of masonite for mounting. Working toward this Board's recommendation to the town, discussion centered on the legal aspects of the apartment house Apart - zone. ' The Clerk was instructed to contact Mr. Johnson of the Chamber of Commerce regarding the parking study in the center, Parking relative to further joint meetings, Mr. Greeley spoke of the results of the High School Planning project sponsored by the New England Town Planning Association, in which the Lexington class was awarded top honors for the best set of plans and reports submitted. It was the opinion of the Board that this work should be given due publicity and credit in the local paper, and Mr. Greeley suggested that a cut of the winning plan be also published, which should be of interest to the townspeople.
