HomeMy WebLinkAbout1935-12-20 REPORT OF PLANNING BOARD December 20, 1935 Present: Messrs Duffy, Ellis, Kimball, Robinson and Sellars Town Engineer Cosgrove part time. Mr. Cosgrove submitted a tracing covering the proposed layout of the Circumferential Highway. Discussion centered around the crossing at the railroad which had been shown as at the underpass while the consensus of opinion was that Circum- sufficient clearance and satisfactory drainage could not ferential both be accomplished, the obtaining of engineering data to substantiate the opinion would run into some expense, and that Mr. Cosgrove should proceed to obtain the necessary prints as drawn. The draft of a letter to the State Planning Board was considered but not closed. Mr. Cosgrove explained the Fletcher Avenue situation and presented a proposed layout which was in effect an ex- tension of Sherman Street. Heavy construction in the way Fletcher of a ledge would make this a relatively expensive project. Avenue Mr. Duffy is not convinced of the full rights of the order closing the street. Alternative routes were considered but no decision reached. The Merriam Factory site was again discussed in de- tail and no new angles being developed, the following vote was recorded* Voted: That the board take no action towards changing the status of area on Oakland Street now occupied by the buildings known as Merriam's Factory for the following reasons: Merriam 1. To maintain the original intention of zoning Factory this area for one family houses. Site 2. The erection of an apartment would tend to impair the status of the neighborhood. 3. The board is of the opinion that there is in- sufficient demand for so-called multi-family houses to warrant financial success, but to the contrary that the demand is increasing for the smaller type residence which would be more appropriate for this district.
